Inconsistent vertex count between keyframes that have same number of vertices

Hello, I'm having a frustrating issue that I'm honestly at wit's end trying to solve. I have a path with keyframes on it. Each keyframe has 12 vertices. But for some reason AE is still interpolating the path by creating and deleting vertices between the keyframes. Essentially, it is creating a new vertex at a random place in the path, and thenit deletes another vertex. So it starts and ends with 12, but between those keyframes there are 13 vertices.

The reason this is annoying? Not only does it look janky, but I'm trying to put a joystick on it using the joysticks n sliders plugin, but the plugin requires that all paths bound to a joystick have the same number of vertices at all times, so when I try to bind, it yields an error.

My "Preserve constant vertex point count when editing masks" setting is checked in my general preferences. I tried unchecking it to see if it changed anything, but it did not.

"Preserve constant vertex point count when editing masks" does an excellent job. My thoughts are that you enabled this in the midst of creating your vertices and not before starting on the process. You should either delete any unwanted vertices to ensure a consistent number of vertices across all Path Keyframes and see if this resolves the issue or start from scratch. HTH

Hi there, I started over from scratch with this option turned off (previously it had already been on throughout my working process, as it is by default) and the same thing happened again -- vertices are still being created out of thin air. So seemingly turning this option on/off has no impact on my problem. Thanks

When enabled the option should provide a consistent vertex count. It'll be great if you can do a screen recording. And file a Bug Report along with the AEP. If you are not able to do the screen recording, then filing a Bug Report along with the AEP will be good too.

Lastly, are you able to reproduce this issue with a fresh AEP - just to ensure there is no issue with this AEP.

I don't see anything get added. Your vertices are just "jumping" around, likely because you messed up their keyframes. It simply seems you are not understanding how AE handles these things and when a specific point is highlighted as selected and when not and that's confusing you.

Hi, please count again, there are 12 vertices at the starting and ending keyframe, but 13 between the two keyframes. A vertex is being created between two existing vertices, and then by the end a separate vertex collapses into another and disappears.
