Presets won't show up in After Effects

I downloaded some presets that won't show up in my presets folder once I open After Effects. I'm assuming it's because I have the 2017 version and the presets were made in AE2018. Is there a way to get around this problem and get the presets to show up in my AE2017?

    Hi marionr12472119,

    I know this is from a little over a month ago, but I have a few questions.

    Are the presets .ffx files?

    Are you on Windows or Mac?

    Exactly where did you save the preset?

    If you're on Mac, you can save the .ffx in two places:

    1. Applications > Adobe After Effects CC 2017 > Presets

    -In AE this should show up in your Presets folder in the Effects & Presets panel (may have to close and open AE again).

    2. Documents > Adobe > After Effects CC 2017 > User Presets

    -In AE this should show up in your User Presets folder in the Effects & Presets panel (may have to close and open AE again).

    I'm also skeptical it's not showing because of the reason you pointed out. But I also wonder what you've tried so far.

    My Adobe after effect is not showing on window screen

    The Content aware Fill? Not seeing in my window it’s showing every other besides that one. My computer is a Mac. Software is 0SX EL Captain version 10.11.6. I checked on Adobe updates it says they’re all updated including after affects.

    This is a totally different topic now. But I assume that you're probably on the 2018 version of After Effects, but your Creative Cloud manager says that you're all up to date, right? To quote Adobe's website: "Creative Cloud 2019 apps do not support some older OS versions...Creative Cloud 2019 apps are available for Windows 7, Windows 10 or later, and macOS Sierra 10.12 or later" (OS support for Creative Cloud 2019 apps).

    So basically, your Creative Cloud manager is showing that you are as up to date as your current operating system will allow you. I recommend updating your macOS to Version 10.13.6 High Sierra. If you use the other Adobe software, some of the others seem to work better with 10.13.6 (a lot of people are still avoiding Mojave). After you update your operating system to 10.13.6 High Sierra, then the most recent updates will be available.
