Resizing vector graphics in After Effects.

Hi all,
Does anyone know if it's possible to scale up or scale down an animation made with vector shapes in After Effects without losing quality.

Thank you!

Correct answer angie_taylor

In order to scale up Vector Graphics and keep the image sharp and not pixellated you need to;

a) Import an Illustrator File

b) Click on the "Continuous Rasterization" switch for the layers you are scaling, in the Timeline.

Without this done, After Effects will reasterize the image once and will then treat it as a bitmap image.

I hope this helps 🙂

You really need to spend some time with the basics. Check the User Guide. Use the Search Help field in the top right corner of AE to look up Collapse Transformations and Import Illustrator.

This is very basic stuff.

It should work fine if the vector graphic was saved in the correct format like .ai

Thank you!

And what if the vector shapes were created and animated in After Effects? Will the quality be lost if I scale that animation up?

If you create vectors in After Effects, using Shape Layers or Text layers, they should scale up without any issues. The only exception would be if you have done something that will rasterize them, such as precomposing.
