Question

The Rotation Tool won't rotate counter-clockwise

So, lately the Rotation Tool in After Effects hasn't been working the way it used to. In the past many years I've been able to grab an object and very easily rotate it clockwise or counter-clockwise with no problem whatsoever. Now I can't rotate counter clockwise at all, and no object will rotate beyound 180 degrees (clockwise only of course). Whatsup with this?!? Please see the video below. I'm a highly experienced user with almost 20 years of experience in AE, running an extremely powerful computer, so unless there's been some useability update I'm not aware of, this is unlikely to be operator error. I've been adjusting values instead as a workaround, but this is just frustratinge me. Thanks in advance.

There was a bug with one of the earlier builds that happened only when you clicked close to the anchor point. It's been fixed and I can't replicate the problem anymore. Please check the CC app for a build update for your version of AE.

Hey Rick, thanks for the suggestion. It turned out there is an update to v18 which I've installed but have since realised that this problem is more intermittent than I'd realised. For example, with the arrow I showed earlier, if I import that into a comp in a brand new project the problem doesn't seem to exist. If I import it into a new comp in the project I'm busy working on then the problem is exhibited. Empty, new comps, exact same method of import, no other changes made. This is the case in v17 and v18. Leads me to think the problem is with my project, but that doesn't make sense either. There's nothing special about this project, just a simple motion graphics job using imported AI gfx. I noticed something strange too: if I draw a rectangle shape, thereby creating a new shape layer, then the rotation tool works fine on the parametric object (ie the path), but as soon as I select the shape layer itself, the same problem happens. So I'm stumped, but will keep a closer eye and try narrow down when it occurs... Thanks again though.

Hi DotKomrade,

Sorry for your issue.

If possible, please share your After Effects project with us to test. Here's how: https://helpx.adobe.com/in/creative-cloud/help/share.html

You can DM me the download link if you don't what it to be public.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,
Nishu

I'm trying to replicate the issue but the truth is that it works for me and you are right something happens with your After Effects. Have you tried changing your mouse? It may seem silly but with technology you never know.

Byron.

That's a good point, thanks. Didn't help though 😞
