Warning Plugins Have Failed to Load / Error Couldn't find main entry point / macOS

While opening AE received the following warning:

After Effects warning: The following plugins have failed to load. Please reinstall these plugins:

[insert long list here]

clicked through OK

Was then greeted with the following error:

After Effects error: Couldn't find main entry point for [plugin name] (48:: 72)

I followed the path to investigate:

/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore/

But found that there is no Plug-ins folder in the Common folder.

After a search on Adobe Community I have found fixes for PC users, but not for macOS users.

my details:

After Effects 25.2.0

Apple M2 Max

96 GB Memory

macOS Sequoia Version 15.3.2

just making sure here: I thought the same was true on my mac mini, but there are 2 libraries that have almost identical folders and folder strucutres. One is on my HD. And the other is in the user folder. (on my computer) one of them has the plugins, the other one does not. BTW: problem "solved" by going back to 25.1.

Trying to upgrade past 25.1 caused all of my plugins to error out. In my case, with this new version, if a plugin was not compatible, it would error out and not initialize ALL other plugins. To solve it, I went to /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/MediaCore/ and renamed the MediaCore folder to something like MediaCore-old. Then, I reinstalled some plugins creating a new MediaCore folder. Once I confirmed a set of plugins like RedGiant worked in that new folder, I could then copy and paste other plugins from the "MediaCore-old" folder  in a an annoying exercise of trial and error to find out which of my plugins were no longer compatible and or needed to be updated. I was able to find quite a few old plugins which honestly might not have even worked in my old verions of AE but I never got errors for so had just left them hanging around. Hope this helps someone.

In Finder Menu Select - Go - Go To Folder... and past this: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/Plug-ins/7.0/

Rename MediaCore folder to MediaCore-old

Restart AE, this works for me.

Also having the same issue on my MacBook Pro M3 Max. I get the same error as the first screenshot with the TrapcodeOBJ.plugin. All Maxon/RS plugins have been updated but that didn't make a difference. Have downgraded to AE 25.1 from 25.2.2 and this has fixed the issue.

I'm also having this issue on my work computer (Mac Studio 2023 M2 Max) with an added quirk. When I follow the path in the error message, there is no plug-in with that name in the folder. I'm more than okay with not using this plug-in, I think I've used it maybe 3 times and it's been a while. Super weird for it to just not be there...

@jonf50585586 THANK YOU for this! I found the identical folder and deleted the identical plug-ins, and now the error alert is gone. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!

Hi,
1. Ignore remarks that relate the issue to external plugins. Its the Adobe update, that messes things up.
2. Try downgrading version by version (for me 25.2.2 to 25.1. worked)
3. Avoid the 25.2.2 Update on Mac

sorry guys but seriously what are you tlaking about?  This has nothing to do with the plugin manufactors!
We talk about a adobe error here!
Btw downgrading to 25.1 fixes this... i would not update to 25.2.2 at least on Mac...

Hi Wallroff,

Happy to investigate this further. Please ensure that you're using the latest version of the plug-ins. If it's happening with the latest version, let me know the name of the plug-ins and their version. I'll try to get it investigated by the product team.

Thanks,
Nishu

exact same problem here. I noticed with Maxon Universe, but it also applies to one other plugin that is not Maxon/Red Giant. Interestingly ONE Universe plugin works, it is one that has been added recently to the Universe package ("Dithering") - maybe that helps

Not OK, that this is happening on a minor Update!!!
We have to rely, that these things don't happen!  Have to downgrade AE now. Super annoying...

Regarding the download of Notch, you to

https://notchlc.notch.one/

Regarding the download of Trapcode, you go to

Same issue here started after recent update. This is happening on both of my machines I am using for work, and both started after a recent update.  I've done all the things with the plugin installers and looked for the referenced folders, and I've even just uninstalled all plugins, but I'm still getting these.

Can you try reaching out to the plug-in manufacturer and see if they can help?

Thanks,
Nishu

Hi all,

It is possible that the plug-ins are not compatible with the version of After Effects you're using? Try updating your plug-ins and see if that helps. Some Red Giant users were able to fix the same issue by updating their plug-ins.

Hope it helps.

Thanks,
Nishu
