XYZ Arrow Size / Selection Area Too Small

Is there any way to either enlarge the XYZ arrows or increase the area on them that's selectable? Right now it seems like the only part of the arrows that's selectable is a 2-pixel line in the center and even being 1-pixel off selects whatever's behind the arrow. Having to be so precise and wait for the little "x" or "y" symbol to pop up on my cursor before clicking is endlessly frustrating.
