Can't work layers within animated character composition without it isolating the view

HI,  I'm working on an animation.  I brought a vectored, layered character I created in from Adobe Illustrator to After Effects.  When I click on the character's layer to animate the individual layers within, I always get the character isolated in the preview window.  I can't figure out how to animate the character's layers and view the entire composition/backround at the same time.

I'm 100 percent with OussK. You imported your artwork in such a way that it caused a ton of sub-compositions to be created with teh most likely reason being that you used somenon-vector based feature on your AI file, causing content to be rasterized and put into separate comps.

can you post some screenshot, I think you didn't know how AE work, mostly your character is in nested composition
