Adobe Bridge 2023 using 123GB of system memory on macOS

Last week I posted a thread regarding huge resource spikes when using Adobe Bridge 2023 on macOS:

https://community.adobe.com/t5/bridge-discussions/averaging-700-800-cpu-usage-on-adobe-bridge-2023/m-p/13403193

A few minutes ago I was greeted with this message regarding my system running out of application memory and my hard drive running out of space (attached). In this case it looks like Adobe Bridge was using 123.22GB of memory.

Again, any insights as to why this is happening and what I could do to prevent it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi @robmiracle

Since we are not able to reproduce the issue at our end, could you please share a few more details to help us investigate the issue..
- What is the average size of NEF file

- Are you using any other application along with Bridge and is the memory usage for other applications is also going high

- Also what operations you are trying on Bridge

Regards,

Bridge Team

You're skirting around the real problem. The resource management of the latest versions of Bridge is terrible. If you want to fix the issue, rewrite it from scratch.

Until last month, I used Bridge on a 2014 Mac with the same resources. OSX Sierra and Bridge 2019.
Bridge was fast. I keep several tabs opened, switching and copying from one to others and creating thumbnails up to 5GB. I always had several apps opened. Bridge NEVER went out from application memory.
Now, I tried all available versions of Bridge and all settings without success. I'm an expert user.

Additionally, in Bridge 2024, the Search option doesn't work.
I must use the previous versions.
It must be corrected that Adobe wastes users' time checking the settings.
The problem is on your side.

Last, Photomechanic is not an option. Price apart, it doesn't read PDFs nor fit with my Photoshop workflow.

This is happening to me now: 160GB.

I've had this memory vampire thing happen on many of Adobe apps using massive memory when there's not even a file open in the apps.

The only resoltion I had was to uninstall the apps and reinstall.

I have the same problem when I open a folder with a number of raw files.
It does not matter if there are also other types of files in this folder, such as jpg or psd.

But when I put a filter on a small number of files; in this example 3 portrait format files then cpu load is low.
If I then turn off the filter again and thus see all files again, the cpu remains low.
So the problem seems to be related to the filters as well.

I hope someone has a solution.

I'm experiencing this today and I have not been. In my case, Bridge is trying to generate thumbnails on around 1000 Nikon Z 9 HE* files. I've not had this in the past with even larger numbers of files.

I have a reasonably new MacBook M1 Max with 32GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD with over 600GB free.

Bridge has climbed over 211GB of memory.

looking at "Updates Recently" in Creative Cloud Bridge doesn't show up. I don't remember a recent update to bridge.

I'm running macOS Ventura 13.2.1 (22D68)

and yet again. I walk away from my system for a few hours and i return to 135*** gb of memory being used. this is a fully recurring issue. i wish i could get any degree of insight as to why this keeps happening and how it can stop.

Add me to this list, as well. Bridge user since the 20th century and not had this. I normally leave it open all the time, but this latest update - on my 14" MB Pro with 64GB RAM and 2TB storage gives me an out of memory error. Something is clearly going on and Adobe should acknowledge that and fix it.

Clearly, something is wrong with Bridge 2023 because for the past 10+ years, I've always left Bridge open while I work every day. Now, I can't have it open for more than 20-30 seconds before my CPU fan goes crazy. I'm on a 2019 iMac (3.7 GHz 6-Core i5) with 64 GB of RAM using Ventura 13.1.

Even with all of the thumbnail settings set to "fastest", Bridge is still unusable.

True as well. Oh my previous MacBook with i7, it spun the CPU so much that it drained the battery in a few minutes.

on my M1 it's alright, but I think it has more to do with the CPU being really efficient.

Adding to this thread as the issue is persistent. If I leave Bridge running and leave my computer for an extended period of time, it will use up all of my hard drive space until the system warns me.

Because this is not happening to everyone, please provide your OS and what release, and which version of Bridge you are using.

For example, I am not having this happening to me, and I'm always leaving Bridge running.

I have had the same issue last week; although I only managed to reach 85GB before my system alerted me.

@AlexJz, you only have 16 GB of RAM. How large is your hard drive and how much space is available on it?

512GB. When I had the issue it most likely had around 350GB left if not more
