adobe bridge - filter management

Hi

I used to use (!) Elements 8 but thinks it's time to move on.

But, can anybody tell me how to use the filters. En Elements I have a categori called "Family" and subcategoris called my families names.

In Bridge I cannot make the main-categori - only all the names, the places, the events, ... What a mess.

 

It's the filters in the left side I'm talking about - the keywords in the right side (for each picture) are in categories (people->Rasmus, places->Copenhagen, ...)

 

Can anybody help me? - have tried Google...

Hi Mr. Caps,

 

Forgive me but it's been a long time since I've looked/worked in PSE so I'm going on weak memory here.

 

For one big thing, Lightroom is more like PSE than Bridge is. As I recall, there is a certain amount of "intelligence" in the organizer (forget what it's called, sorry) so that it can find faces, bring all the "dog" photos together, etc. Bridge has NOTHING like that. 

 

What you can do is to create folders that help you organize your photos. That is YOU create the Family folder and YOU create the Aunt Maude folder etc. But remember, there is no facial recognition. 

 

The big limitation for this is if you have a big Thanksgiving Dinner and both Aunt Maude and Uncle Albert show up and you've got a photo of the both of them, who's folder do you put that in. 

 

You can use Keywords in Bridge and with that you can also find just the Uncle Albert photos as long as you have the Family folder open, Bridge will locate all of the Uncle Albert in the Family photo.

 

But then let's say you go off to Nebraska to visit Uncle Albert and you do add his keyword to his photo. If you have the Family folder open, it will not find the Uncle Albert photo from your vacation folder. One way around this is to do a search in your system's search for metadata and they will all be found.

 

If you move over to Lightroom Classic, you can import your catalog into LRC and pretty much all will be preserved. In addition, all of the folders you have are irrelevant to any keywords and/or names and if you want to find your Uncle Albert images, it doesn't make a difference in what folder they are in.

Hi Mr._caps,

 

Forgive me but it's been so long since I played with PSE I might not be fully sure what to expect or think when you use the word "filters." Can you please elaborate on what happens when you are using PSE and their filters are doing what you seek?

 

Otherwise, I think/pretty sure that when you import into LRC, your keywords will be maintained and your folder structure will be maintained. Would that be enough or what else would you want/expect?
