Bridge CC 2018 - no option to change cache location to another drive

Updated Bridge yesterday along with other CC apps on fully updated Win7 PC, opting to not transfer preferences.

When I go to Edit, Preferences, Cache and try to change the cache location to a dedicated K: scratch drive, it appears that no disk drives are shown.

Previously the solution was to hunt for e.g. 'Computer' or 'This PC' and expand to see the other drives*.

However on this PC, all I see as a 'tree' is [Desktop] then just [Admin] below and to the right. When I expand [Admin], I do not see e.g. 'Computer' so cannot browse to other drives.

As there is no manual way to enter a drive letter and folder, this is a problem.

Any ideas?

*Weirdly, on a Win7 laptop that was also updated (but with the option to transfer preferences accepted) I can see 'Computer' down the tree - at the top is [Desktop] and then beneath [User1] I can see and navigate to [Computer].

So, the question is why the tree on the PC seems truncated/limited (when Windows Explorer works perfectly and can show all drives)

Incidentally, out of curiosity I went hunting back through registry entries for the various flavors of Bridge and can see that for CS6 and CC2015 the Cache location was stored there (CacheDirectory) - so I guess I could have manually changed there. However CC2017 and CC2018 registry paths do not have a CacheDirectory option.

(This also begs the question as to why updating e.g. CC2015 to CC2017, the installation process leaves the original registry entries cluttering up the registry...)

I have seen this problem mentioned in the past but can't recall if there was a solution.

What I would try is to put a shortcut of My Computer on the desktop.

Have the same problem with not able to change Bridge CC 2018 Cache location to a folder in a different drive due to the incomplete available options

Speaking of Bridge CC 2018 settings stored in Windows 7 registry, what MRUOptions-2.0 is about ?

We have not been able to see this issue at our end. Could you please attach a screenshot for the same.

This key would get auto-generated as soon as you open the select directory dialogue in Cache Preferences inside Bridge. (Preferences > Cache > Choose...)

Hi Saurabh,

Interestingly, after following the solution mentioned (put a MyComputer shortcut on the Windows desktop, then use that route via the dialog box in Bridge to access e.g. k: drive), when I now start Bridge and go into the Cache 'choose location' area, the file tree now displays as normal i.e. with all the various drives and paths displayed.

(I can absolutely confirm that it did not do this prior to this solution, as I opened and closed the dialog box about 20 times, with about 10 restarts of Bridge in the hope of finding a solution myself).

Yes, looking at the Registry, there is an entry for 'CacheDiretory' and 'K:\DataBridge\' is stored.

So, something weird happened on updating CC and Bridge to v2018 - note that this machine is a key business machine so only has mainstream software on it, no weird domestic apps.

Yes, I have seen this issue and the workaround in previous versions of Photoshop too.

Hi Ronald,

Thanks for your answer which I have marked as correct as now the intended path - k:\DataBridge - shows in the Preferences.

Rant: Adobe, like other tech companies including Microsoft, need to employ part-time 'average Jo/Anna' testers of their software - not beta testers, who are a breed apart.

Average Jo/annas just want the software to 'work' for their everyday needs - being able to store the cache on a different drive to the OS drive is an 'everyday need'.

Had Adobe Bridge devs done this, they would have been asked 'why on earth do you make it so difficult to choose the intended path? why not allow the user to enter it manually, rather than only be able to browse for it?'

Sadly, with the new fashion for cloud and continuous updates, common sense in software dev appears to have reduced, not improved.

And I would still like to know why choosing 'Update and Remove previous versions' leaves my registry littered with redundant entries...
