Question

Bridge v14.0.0.102 extremely slow to cache/load content.

I have a Macbook Air 13" M1 (for specs reference).

Every time I open Bridge it takes immensely long to load content, so macOS informs me that the app is non-responsive and suggests that I "force quit" the all or ignore.

Please advise as this sucks!

Hi, to continue the spec info, what is your OS and how much RAM do you have?

For the images: how many images do you have in the folder and what are the sizes of images (smaller/larger/averate)?

Thanks

OS: Sonoma
Macbook Air M1 13" 8GB RAM 256GB SSD.

As for the amount of images, that varies from 3 in a folder to 20 in a folder.
Image types: jpg, tiff, png, ai, PSD, pdf, eps, photoshop addons (actions, brushes, pattern files, etc).

Also, when viewing the files in thumbnail mode, it just displays the icon of the file and not the content of the image file.

I migrated from Windows to Mac. Used Bridge on Windows and it never causes this much of a slow down in simple browsing as I am experiencing with Bridge v14.0.0.102 for macOS.

I have not made any setting changes to Bridge, still all default settings)

Hi, @dewaldwessels1970 , Thanks for the information.

I would call your RAM a bit on the low side. However, I just checked, and Adobe says 4GB is the absolute minimum. I do not think that Apple sells anything lower than 8 GB, so I'm not all that sure where that came from. [Data from here: https://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/system-requirements.html]

On the other hand, you are not stressing your system with thousands of images. There are folks in these forums who scream that Bridge doesn't fly when they are opening a folder with thousands of images, each of them 100s of MB in size.

I can think of two things to try to speed things up: Purge the cache for the slow folder and reset your Bridge's Preferences

To Purge your cache, go to Tools (menu) -> Cache -> Purge cache for (specific folder)

To reset Bridge’s Preferences:

Quit Bridge (if running). Just before clicking on Bridge in the Dock or double-clicking the application for the Mac, press Command-Option-Shift. For PCs, press Control-Alt-Shift. Then open Bridge BUT KEEP your fingers on those keys until you see a window pop up. From the window, choose “Reset Preferences," "Entire Thumbnail Cache,” and/or "Reset Standard Workspaces.” In your case, choose "Reset Preferences."

Please let me know if eitehr of these fixes the issues.
