Question

how do I search for text in a file name in a collection in Adobe Bridge?

I have a collection of about 600 images. How do I search within only that collection for a particular word in a title?

I'd like to open the collection, and search for, for example, all files with "FMC" in the file name.

Thanks,

Phil

I have a feeling that this is NOT what you are looking for, however, I'll post it anyway!

Find the .filelist collection file...

Windows (the AppData directory may be hidden):

C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Bridge 2021\Collections\

Mac (the user library may be hidden):

/Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Bridge 2021/Collections/

Open the .filelist collection file in a plain text editor.

Use the Find or Find All feature to isolate if the file is in the collection.

Definitely not what I am looking for, but very interesting.  Thanks for the idea.

Bridge thinks that collections are on the desktop. So a search doesn't look at the collection, it searches the desktop folder.

Without some unwieldy workarounds, its not possible.

Thanks.

The easiest workaround is to assign a keyword (collection name, maybe) to every file then search the entire drive for keyword and desired filename.

I know we are supposed to try to help within the Adobe universe of things, but Erik is correct; this is beyond Bridge's capabilities.

However, IF you are on a Mac and IF you are willing to spend a bit of money (not much), I strongly recommend you look into HoudahSpot, a search engine for the Mac that is beyond anything else in features or capabilities. For your needs, this would be a snap. If you're interested, check out https://www.houdah.com/

I don't think this is possible - unless somebody else knows otherwise!

You can search within a folder (including its subfolders) for "Document Title>Contains>text" but not within collections.

You can filter collections but unfortunately "Document Title" is not one of the filter citeria.

Unless I am incorrect in my assumption, it seems that your only option is to physically copy the images in your collection into a new folder then you can search within that folder. Not a great solution though especially with 600 images.
