Old Mac won't read new camera raw files

Bridge 8.1 on my old Mac Pro (OS 10.11.6) won't read raw files from my new Sony camera. The computer is too old to upgrade my PS CC (19.1.9). The new DNG converter says it needs OS 10.14 to work. I've been told I can't upgrade the OS any further. What do I do?

Correct answer Lumigraphics

You'll need a newer computer, that can run a current version of DNG Converter, Bridge/Camera RAW, or both.

Yeah. That winds up being an expensive camera (Sony a6600)! Years ago I waited for new Mac Pros to come out, but when they did (the trash can version), the price was prohibitive and the reviews were bad...then they got even more expensive.

Hi Foleyfoto,

Some thoughts and suggestions on Mac computer buying:

For many years I also was getting Mac Pros beucase of the greater RAM capacity. But when the 5k iMac came out and I coudl put 32 GB in myself, I didn't NEED the Mac Pro.

For my wife, when I moved from the Mac Pro, I had an extra monitor so we got here a Mac Mini. We got her the last Intel model and it worked very well. The M1 Mac Mini seems to also be a winner but we a bit forwarned: not all applications are working at 100% with rosetta 2. They work, just not well and it doesn't apply to all applications. If you get one, just be patient.

Lastly, if you are on a limited budget, the first place you should put your money is video RAM: get the most powerful and largest video RAM. Then put money into RAM, I'd say minimum 32 GB. The last place to put your money is in how fast the core processors are. I'm not saying that they do not make a difference but video RAM is more important than faster cores.

Good luck shopping!
