Why is Bridge CC so slow?

I'm trying to figure out a way to diagnose why Bridge CC is so slow. I regularly use programs like Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere and don't notice any kind of inapropriate lag or delays at all. However, when working in Bridge it just feels slow. Opening menus occasionally just hangs for seconds on end before dropping down. Thumnails from a gallery I've previously viewed can take upwards of 10 seconds to appear after opening the software. But the most noticeable and repeatable issue comes when trying to select more then one image files. CTR-Clicking a second (or however many additional files) can take anywhere from 5-8 seconds to happen. This, more then anything else, is making bridge unusable.

What should I do?

Hello... so I have also been experiencing some pretty substantial slowness in Bridge that "seemed" to get worse as the newer versions released, but has existed for what seems to be the last 3-4 versions. I'm on the current 2022 version on two systems, a xps 15 laptop with windows 11 and custom built PC with windows 10 pro. Both were seeing this horrible slowness in Bridge and it was to the point that I was researching other options. But I couldn't find anything that could do what Bridge can do with ACR and photoshop integrations, etc. I could go on and on about that road, but I'll come back to how I ended up fixing my speed issue. This post helped me to ultimatly discover what was causing my Bridge slowness. It without a doubt came down to on both systems have mapped network drives to a local server and a web server that I VPN into. Some of them aren't always connected, but still show up in windows as a disconnected drive. As soon as I removed all the mapped network drives that weren't connected, Bridge instantly performed like lightening!! It was incredible. So, my guess is that on both windows or mac, if some sort of drive is connected, but not linked... maybe even to the point of a dropbox connection, or similar, that may be causeing Bridge to crawl. Mine was litterly taking 20-30 seconds to open a directory with 1 or 2 small web sized jpgs in it. I could open a folder, click to another and clicking back into a folder would lag on loading. If I batch renamed files and clicked refresh, it would take 10, 20, sometimes even up to a minute for the files to show again. Both systems are now like lightening and I couldn't be happier. Just wanted to share my discovery and hope it helps someone else. I'm now on to seeing alternative ways to connect to other computers on the network... but for now, I'm absolutely thrilled that Bridge is fast!

ok, my problem also is solved.

If someone has such a issues as me (freezing because of wacom tablet).

You need to go to Control Panel/hardware and sound/ pen and touch/ change tablet pen settings and enable press and hold function.

Now Bridge works like a charm.

Worked here too. Bridge was taking ages to build thumbnail caches.

I removed each "C:\USERS\Public" Library locations listing from 'My Documents', 'My Pictures', 'My Videos' and 'My Music'.

Big networked office here, no need for 'Public' folder shares anywhere.

Flies along now

For me it's unfortunately doesn't solve the problem.

Tried the library and compatibility still slow performance by Bridge CC(6.1.0.116 x64).

My spec:

SSD 500 GB Samsung Evo

i7 4930k cpu

Asus Sabertooth x79

32 GB DDR3

Windows 8.1 64bit

---------------------------------

I've found that the problem is with wacom intuos. Tried different drivers and still nothing. Can't use Bridge CC with wacom intuos(with mouse there are no freezes).

Hi Guys,

I need help. I have had the same issues with Bridge CC n photoshop CC. I am a professional photographer running various machines in my studio. I upgraded to CC a month back and have been struggling with this issue. I was using an alienware and have reset, reformatted downgraded from windows 8 to windows 7 and now finally moved to another fresh Dell machine. the alienware is an icore 7, 16gb ram and the new dell is i core 5 8 gb ram. i am also using a surface pro 3, i core7, 8 gb ram.

After struggling between 3 machines i read your posts and have tried everything as above but to no use. Can anyone suggest any other help. I have wasted the last 15 days and my complete workflow and planning has been ruined.

I am so frustrated that i have rest my alienware and am going to reinstall CS6

"So I went in to the libraries and removed all the links that went to my laptop and skydrive and Bridge worked perfectly as would be expected on a new PC. So check your libraries."

HUGE WINNER!! DID IT FOR ME, THANKS!

Bridge, out of nowhere, started taking 8-12 seconds to do ANYTHING, i.e., click on a menu and wait for it to drop down, or CTRL-Click a 2nd image to select 2, which easily took 12 seconds for the 2nd image to get the selction border. .Wasn't a PC issue, not with a 6-core i7, 32GB ram and THREE SSDs, one solely dedicated to Adobe Scratch. had to be a Microsoft/Adobe issue, and there it is. Huge huge thanks!

I ran into the same issues. I've fixed it by opening the Windows explorer, navigate to Bridge.exe and right-click: Then select "Troubleshoot Compatibility"

Another option is to create a short-cut for bridge.exe (e.g. on your desktop), open the properties and open the compatibility tab.

Check "Run this program in compatibility mode for": and select "Windows Vista (Service Pack 2)" from the pull-down list.

On my machine Bridge instantly changed from a snail like program into a snappy smooth running program.

HTH.

I have exactly the same issue on my brand new Surface Pro 3 (i7 512GB version).  I have CS6. I just downloaded Bridge CC but it gets stuck too. My older machines Lenovo Yoga 2 has no such problem. Both have the latest Windows 8.1 updates and Adobe updates.

I just started suffering this problem of Bridge CC being unresponsive a couple of days ago.  A quick way to check for this symptom is to click on a file in the Content pane and then, holding down the Ctrl or Shift key, click on an adjacent file.  The second file should be added to the selection immediately. If it takes 10 seconds or more, that's the unresponsiveness problem I'm talking about.

I followed the repair procedure posted by HappyGuy, but without any luck.  Pursuing his same thinking, though, I was able to quickly fix the problem.  I went to the Favorites panel in Bridge and removed every favorite that involved network access.  I then clicked on each of the remaining favorites to make sure they were all working.  I found one that pointed to a file that had moved, so I removed it.  After these changes, Bridge started working at its normal pace again.

(I had recently added a couple of favorites for accessing folders over the LAN and I think I had also moved one file, breaking the corresponding favorite.)

I think from what has been said previously in this topic, before doing something simple like extending a selection or bringing up a context menu in response to a right click, Bridge is stopping to check a whole lot of things that don't need to be checked.  You can call this a bug or you can call it poor software design, but apparently it has caused a lot of users a lot of grief.  Causing users a lot of grief is bad for the reputation of your software product, so I think Adobe should address this problem by changing the software.

Oh my goodness smilsmith... I could kiss you!!!

I have tried EVERYTHING with no success... but YOU had the answer! Thank you sooo much!

I had links on my 'favorite' panel that were no longer accessible by my laptop - removed them and problem solved!

I just bought a new computer with with Windows 8.1 and plenty of all the hardware that make Adobe CC work great. Unfortunately Bridge had the sluggish slow response that seems to be haunting many people. I read through the adobe support and forums and found a number of good places to look but nothing that outlined a working solution for me. I tried all this http://helpx.adobe.com/bridge/kb/troubleshoot-errors-freezes-bridge-windows.html and nothing worked. I was facinated to find people were able to create new account and found the unresponsiveness went away. I also payed close attention to the fact that network drives might cause problems. Not being familiar enough with Windows 8.1 I looked for traditional XP network drives and found that wasn't the problem. But yesterday I realized I have "Libraries" that point to my windows 8.1 laptop and one that pointed to SkyDrive. The settings transfered to my new PC when I used the same login information from my laptop. So I went in to the libraries and removed all the links that went to my laptop and skydrive and Bridge worked perfectly as would be expected on a new PC. So check your libraries. This might also explain why some people found that a new account solved the problem.

Open the "desktop"

Open "file explorer"

Go to the "view" tab

Click on "navigation pane" in the ribbon

Select "show libraries"

Expand "Libraries" in the folder view

Check the path to every folder in the list

Right-click and choose "remove location from library" if anything points to another computer or SkyDrive

Obviously I can't say it's everyone's problem, but it worked for me. I hope it helps someone. Good luck everyone.

Thanks for reporting you success.  This is one of those things only the user can find.  It definately affects Bridge, but is not something Bridge can control.
