Question

Can't drag and drop from Bridge

I use Adobe Bridge to select photos, and then drag the selected photos into a specific folder on my (Mac High Sierra) Finder. For whatever reason, this no longer works. The dragged photo simply springs back into place on Bridge.

Any ideas or solutions to this annoying problem will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Having this problem as well in 2024. Using 14.0.0.102, it's impossible to drag and drop or copy files. Trying to drag an item out of Bridge causes the focus of my computer to change to the Finder window, but the file itself doesn't move. Additionally, I can't copy and paste the file, because "Copy" is grayed out within Bridge when I select a file. The shortcut returns the "error" sound effect.

What is your OS @Robert25221699migv . I'm on 13.5.2 and can D&D to the Finder or back into Bridge without issues. I have to pause in either direction for a moment to let the system know I've changed location. It is sort of similar to what one does when copying the contents of a layer in Photoshop from one image to the other via the tabs at the top of the screen. It used to be much faster; now, you have to pause until the other image displays, and then you can place the copied layer in its desired location.

What is your Mac OS version?

I have the exact same problem with all the latest 2024 versions installed. I guess it's a Windows 11 "permissions" problem... I investigated some more and noticed all drag and drop operations from any app to Photoshop are now "forbidden" (indicated with the icon in Windows 11 (latest version). I did also have this issue between "some" other applications when I drag and drop...

Also interesting is that between other apps drag and drop works perfectly:

  • drag and drop from Windows Explorer to Photoshop -> not works
  • drag and drop from Windows Explorer to Bridge -> works
  • drag and drop from Windows Explorer to Photoshop -> not works
  • drag and drop from Bridge to Illustrator -> works
  • drag and drop from Windows Explorer to Illustrator -> works

soo clearly something wrong with Photoshop permission behaviour... all these apps are starter under the same user (I checked this in process explorer)

Adobe?

ps: drag-and-drop used to work in the previous Photoshop versions on the same Windows 11 installation.

Does someone running Windows 11 have this problem after installing the latest majour Windows upgrade?

Mac and Windows are 2 totally different OS'ses, I remember Mac runs on Unix and its desktop environement behaves just like Gnome Wayland, where every app runs in its own sandbox, why drag and drop is not avalaible by default. But anyone any idea how it is with Windows 11 nowdays?

Today in 2023, using 13.01.583 with Mac Ventura... The drag and drop performance remains dismal.

Often the folder I'm trying to drop into becomes highlighted and won't allow the drop to happen. I find it takes 3x as long to perform simple drag/drop actions as when I began using Bridge last year.

Hi @darellev

Could you please share following details to help us investigate the issue better:

- For Drag/ drop performance, are you reordering the files in a folder or copying / moving the files.

- Around how many files are there in the folder and are the files on same disk or external disk.

- Is cache geenration also happening in parallel

- If possible could you share a small video recording of the issue you are observing.

Thanks and Regards,

Bridge Team

1. I am attempting to move the files from one folder to another. I have screen-capture of this problem that I don't wish to share publicly since it has personal information. It shows that I have my "downloads" folder open. the downloads folder is highlighted in the folders pane, and the images are showing in the right pane. when I drag one of those image files to another folder in my folders pane, that destination folder will often highlight *at the same time as the downloads folder* and it is impossible to drop that file into the other highlighed folder. The image file just bounces back into the original position. I must click another folder and start the process again.

2. Everything is on the same internal disk. In my example there are six files in the downloads folder, and seven files in the destination folder. But I've had it happen with a single file, or with hundreds in either origin or destination folder.

3. I have no idea what is happening with the cache at what time. I often see a pop-up that asks me to compress (or optimize, or whatever the word is) my cache. This is a new message since my last update, and I don't understand why this isn't happening in the background since that's how I have it set.

4. Can I send this to somebody directly so I don't have to share it publicly on the community board? I don't wish to share all of my folder names with the world as they contain family names, etc.

5. This is a bonus! I have several other issues to report that are new with the latest update.

   a. The subcontext menu for "trash" is now labeled "move to bin" and it took me forever to realize that is how to delete anything. Needs to be more obvious as no other app calls this "move to bin."

b. When I choose "new folder", a folder named NEW FOLDER is created without allowing me to name it. So it becomes a 3-step process to create it, find it, rename it every time. Should be a single process to name it correctly during creation.

Hi Miker2426,

Can you please upgrade to the latest version of Bridge CC 9.0.2.219 and let us know if the issue persists.

Regards,

Abhishek Seth.

I have a Dell Inspiron 7000 Series, and I am unable to drag and drop an image from Adobe Bridge back into Lightroom.  As far as I know, the latest updates are installed.  Thank you.

from Adobe Bridge back into Lightroom.

If the photo is already referenced in the Lightroom catalog, then- No you cannot import the photo 'back' into the catalog. (Unless you had previously 'removed' it from the catalog)

I can successfully drag&drop from Bridge to Lightroom. Either with the Lr Import dialog already open, or in Library Grid view when the Import dialog opens. (Lr-Classic 8.1  Bridge 9.0.2.219  Windows-10)

Regards. My System: Windows-11, Lightroom-Classic 15.0, Photoshop 27.0, ACR 18.0, Lightroom 9.0, Lr-iOS 10.4.0, Bridge 16.0 .
