Adobe get with the program.  I tried importing *.HIF files today from my EOS R5 and Lightroom Classic doesn't even show them in the import window.  They can't be imported.  I can import iPhone *.HEIF files but not from the EOS R5.  Adobe's lack of support for import and export of *.HEIF files is pathetic

Rick,

"HEIF files (from iPhone for example) are imported as HEIF".

What about HEIF files from a EOS R5? I cannot import them on Windows 10. Did I miss anything?

@Rick the file the EOS R5 creates is an *.HIF which is a derivation of the *.HEIF and Lightroom does not recognize it.

Support for HIF is very important, Rick, because every new Canon cam has it.

Important for LR, ACR and PS.

Seems like .HIF is just another name for .HEIF

Would you mind sending a sample file we could look at?

@Rick The photo I am going to send I won't want accessible to the general public. Is there a way I can send the link in a private message or email?

Why not just take a photo of a blank sheet of paper or a wall, then there's no worries about making it public.

Thanks for sharing the file, Micheal. I also was unable to import it into Lightroom. It would open in Apple Preview and I saved a copy as a .heic but that did not import into Lightroom either. I also tried manually renaming the file as a .HEIF but that also would not import.

I have shared the file with our engineers and your feature request that it be supported. Any updates will be posted to this thread.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention.

The new version of Photoshop V22.1.0 promises support for HEIC files but I still can't open the Canon HIF files produced by the R5 and R6. I believe these are HEIC format but they won't open even after installing Windows 10 HEIC and HEVC extensions or renaming the file to .HEIC. Only the Canon DPP app opens them at present. There was also a Canon firmware update that promised improved compatability but this makes no difference. Is it a Canon or Adobe problem?

I would suggest adding a feature request at the link below where it will be seen by Adobe staff.

Same hrer with the EOS R5. LR can't see the HEIF files. Add to that, you can't edit them in DPP4. The ev scales are all grayed out.
