Frame Rate in Preview is Low

Hello!

I just purchased a 2022 Macbook Pro (Apple M1 Max chip with 10-core CPU, 32-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine, 64gb of Memory) and a simple scene (5 characters -- created in AI-- walking from point A to point B, then some dialogue) is painfully slow in preview. It starts at 24fps, immediately goes to 10fps, and goes all the way down to 4 fps at its worst.

I opened up the activity monitor and saw that it is only using around 2-3gb of memory, and around 230-250%CPU.

How do I optimize CH so that it is not so slow in preview?

Thank you

There are no "draft" modes or anything similar in Character Animator yet, so what you see is what you get. In heavy scenes I will try:

  • Disarming/toggling visibility off for characters I'm not currently focused on
  • Disarming behaviors I'm not using (some of the heaviest are physics, head turner, and body tracker)

With 5 characters, I would say try turning off 2-3 characters at a time and see if performance increases (I believe it should).

ok thank you! I will try that.

By the way, the product is incredible, this is the only "snag" I have encountered so far. We are constantly amazed at the speed of which we can do things, but then in preview it is a bit slow. Keep up the amazing work, and many props to the team!
