'Invalid Surface Image' and project unusable

Hi, my project has suddenly stppped working - I can't do anything without encountering this popup 'Invalid Surface Image'. I've tried refreshing the scene and moving the project to my desktop with no luck.

Is this Character Animator project just corrupt and ruined? Should I start again from scratch?

I did not realize that you tried ALT-refresh. The other option is to reach out to @DanTull
