The option to replace assets would be nice

Coming from an AE standpoint, I am really used to the Replace Footage option and Character Rigging can be quite fastidious if your characters' got all (or a lot of) the phonemes.

I tried to base my second character on my first one because I was expecting the option the Replace Footage to be there, layers are saved the same way, it's the exact resolution. That would have been saving a ton of work in pre-production.

Saddly, it's not there... yet?
Or maybe I am not looking at the good place?!

Either way, that option should be implemented, I think everybody making more than a single character in CA would be a big fan of this time saved NOT doing the same thing over again.

Thank you in advance! 🙂

If you click the path, it'll prompt you to select a different file. It's a bit tucked away now that you mention it.https://sites.google.com/view/procreateforpc/home

If you duplicate the puppet in the project panel first, https://community.adobe.com/t5/character-animator/ct-p/ct-character-animator?page=1&sort=latest_replies〈=all&tabid=all the original should stay pointed at the original artwork and the new one can use different artwork, but they'll have identical rigging.

With the puppet track selected, https://apps.apple.com/us/app/procreate/id425073498 hold down Option/Alt while dragging a different source puppet (from the Project panel) onto the selected track in the Timeline panel. Alternatively, select the replacement puppet in the Project pane

@jeff A & @615780 Tull, thanks! You are life savers!

I guess I was just used to replacing footage by right clicking directly on the file and was searching for the option.

Without your help, I probably would have never figured out the way on my own.

If you select the puppet in the Project panel, the Properties panel shows the path to the source artwork file. Click the blue hyperlink, then select the replacement artwork.

If you have a puppet track in the Timeline panel and want to replace it with a different source puppet from the Project panel, it's similar to what you'd do in After Effects. With the puppet track selected, hold down Option/Alt while dragging a different source puppet (from the Project panel) onto the selected track in the Timeline panel. Alternatively, select the replacement puppet in the Project panel, then right-click above the puppet track's header (left side) and choose Replace with Selected Puppet in Project Panel.

Hope that helps.

If you are replacing the whole puppet's artwork (main PSD or AI file) you can do that via the Puppet section of the properties panel when you have the puppet selected in the project panel. If you click the path, it'll prompt you to select a different file. It's a bit tucked away now that you mention it.

If you duplicate the puppet in the project panel first, the original should stay pointed at the original artwork and the new one can use different artwork, but they'll have identical rigging.

This is the same logic that handles reconciling changes made in Photoshop or Illustrator, so if the puppets do differ in layer hierarchy or dimensions, the rigging may get changed somewhat as a result of repointing it, but if they're identical as it sounds like they will be in your situation, it should work.

Hopefully that helps!
