Major issue - Adobe's ending of of Cloud Syncing seems to have damaged windows explorer for many

Many creative cloud users are reporting that in the past day windows explorer has become very slow with everyone experiencing the same problem.  Clicking on folders/files in file explorer causes the cursor to flash 3 times and takes 2-3 seconds to load the folder/file on any disk drive.

The posts below are starting to pop up in reddit help communities and the common factor is that everyone has Creative Cloud installed.  I am experiencing this myself on my work system.  Adobe needs to get an emergency fix put out for this.

Hi Everyone, we have the fix rolled out for this problem. Please follow the steps below to see to apply the update:
  1. Close any opened File explorer windows.
  2. Open Creative Cloud Desktop App.
  3. From the Help menu -> Select 'Check for Updates'.
  4. This should fetch the latest updates for Creative Cloud Desktop App and will be automatically applied.
  5. Once update is applied, open File explorer and problem should no more be there.
Note: If you are facing any issue in applying the latest update or still see this problem on your machine, please navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe OS Extension and rename the file (if present) 'AdobeExplorerExtensionCore.dll' to 'temp_AdobeExplorerExtensionCore.dll'
Please upvote this comment if the problem gets resolved.

YES! I've been having this exact issue for months at my home computer and couldn't figure out what was the issue..

Only read about Adobe CC having anything to do with it now...
I did what they say in this reddit post and apparenlty is has fixed it:
https://www.reddit.com/r/WindowsHelp/comments/1akm9zp/comment/kp90ehw/

But it would be nice if Adobe could give us an official fix. I have no idea if what I did following the reddit instructions can have any negative effect on the how the adobe software I use.

This is just INCREDIBLE... I spent days trying to fix this and reinstalled the whole system in the end. It drived me mad... This is so outrageos how much time I have lost because of this bs. Adobe should care less about its a.i. [cursing removed] and spend more time producing stable software instead of all the buginfested bs they dropped over the last years...

this isn't meant as a fix for the problem, or meant to demean the problem, but you might consider an alternative (imo) far superior file browser that allows dual panes and multiple tabs, freecommander xe

for windows owners that cannot rename the dll:

Open the registry editor (regedit.exe) & naviagate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace You'll probably have two sub-keys. OneDrive's sub-key will be nameed '{018D5C66-4533-4307-9B53-224DE2ED1FE6}' Delete the other one, that will be Creative Cloud.

Did that too. I had a CC, OneDrive, and Dropbox key. Deleted all but Dropbox, but still having the same problem. I remember several years ago, there was an issue with CC (it might have even been Creative Suite back then) and Dropbox. I'm starting to wonder if this might be the cause again.

I realize I'm extremely late to the party here, but I'm still having this issue. Everything Creative Cloud related is up to date, and I don't have a folder called "Adobe OS Extension" or a file called "AdobeExplorerExtensionCore.dll". Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't have the dll, so I can't rename it.

Whatever you fixed is not working for me. I have updated Creative Cloud repeatedly without success ( CC version is 6.10.587). I'm still having this issue. Log file name AdobeLogs_20240320_031439_582-win-GS.zxp.

it' not clear what problem you have nor what fix(es) you tried.

I have the problem mentioned in the original post - Adobe causing issues with Windows Explorer. I tried upgrading - that did not fix the issue. I've since renamed the Adobe Extension OS folder that another poster mentioned, which has fixed it - hopefully that sticks. I'll try renaming the dll if it doesn't.

What is the solution, if all applications are updated, but the issue still appears?

did you

mac:

copy any important file to another folder and then delete Creative Cloud Files + <account type> + <profile_name> + <email> + <GUID> (for example: Creative Cloud Files Personal Account email@abc.com ####@AdobeID).

default location, Mac HD/Users/<Username>/Creative Cloud Files

windows:

Open the registry editor (regedit.exe) & naviagate to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace You'll probably have two sub-keys. OneDrive's sub-key will be nameed '{018D5C66-4533-4307-9B53-224DE2ED1FE6}' Delete the other one, that will be Creative Cloud.

First of all, we prefer to store files local and share them with mechanism controlled by ourself, therefore we did never make use of the cloud. So there is nothing to copy. Also the sync service was paused in CC application.

I did both, even if we didn't have a Mac. There is a similar directory in the Windows user directory, and also had a look at the registry keys, where i did delete the second key. Nothing changed.

By now i found out if you rename the directory

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe OS Extension

to anything else, it will work as a charme.

But it would be nice if Adobe can offer a patch working for all.

you fixed this by changing what?

The supposed creative cloud update was suppose to solve this problem, but it did not. However the changing of  'AdobeExplorerExtensionCore.dll' to 'temp_AdobeExplorerExtensionCore.dll' did resolve the issue.
But this is crazy and should not be happening in 2024. An app interferring with an OS function? Adobe has no business messing around with an OS that causes such issues, and MicroSoft has no 'business' in letting an app interfere with something like a file explorer - Again, it's 2024 - not the era of Win 3.1
The main issue is that no one expects an app to interfere in the manner that this has and as a consequence, as read in other comments and not suprised, how many people have spent hours troubleshooting the issue and gone to great lengths like even a complete re-install of the OS after exhausting other avenues. I for one was just about to haul out my box and disconnect a hard drive I recently installed - As that was the last option I could think of. Until I was lucky enough to find a internet search result(after many different rephrasings), that showed up Adobe being the cuplrit.
It's just insane.

Sad to think of the cumulative thousands of hours that people have likely wasted reinstalling windows and mirroring drives to try and solve this issue like I did.
