Can't open Ebook

I am sure others have had this problem-- when I try to open the .acsm file for an ebook in the most recent version of Adobe Digital Editions I get this message and it won't open:

Error getting License. License Server Communication Problem:

E_ADEPT_DOCUMENT_TYPE_UNKNOWN:

Any advice or workaround? Thanks!
