Question

Unable to Deauthorize

I have been trying to deauthorize my Adobe Digital Editions account for about 24 hours (I need to authorize a different username). Each time I make it through the dialogue, the error message "Unable to Erase Authorization. Please try again after some time" pops up. Why might this error be occurring? I have also tried uninstalling the program, but it keeps me authorized with the original username.

    What worked for me:

    1. Delete the registry key as described.
    2. Uninstall Adobe Digital Editions 4.5.
    3. Restart.
    4. Install Adobe Digital Editions 3.0.
    5. Run Digital Editions 3.0.
    6. Press 'ctrl' + 'shift' + 'd'. This will deauthorise the computer.
    7. Uninstall 3.0.
    8. Install 4.5, run, re-authorise.

    Hope that helps.

You, sir, are appreciated!  That was the ONLY thing (and I mean the ONLY thing) that would work for me.  And it did, indeed, work.

I am having a similar issue. Adobe Help was not helpful with me either. They should re-name this department "unhelp". Anyway, I was referred to this forum for guidance.

When I followed the advice of regedit and delete, the "delete' was greyed out.

When I download an e-book from the library, I can read it on my PC with Windows 10. And I can move the epub to my Kobo. I know it's there when I open the Kobo file on my PC. But I'm unable to see the book on the Kobo, thus unable to open it.

I suspect that the Kobo is not authorized, but am at a loss as to how to go about authorizing it.

Can anyone offer some guidance to this novice? Thanks.

    Hi Ross,

Don't know if you resolved the problem or destroyed all your tech toys. I am close to it. My problem is almost identical. Here is what Kobo told me to do (see below). Unfortunately deauthorizing it from Kobo (#2) is a mystery to me. No option for it is in my Kobo acct. As for deauthorizing from my computer (#3), I see the option to deauthorize under "help" in ADE 4.5 but it's greyed out so unavailable. The CTRL+Shift+ D option (also greyed out) doesn't work either. See no point in going further down the list until I can do those 2 steps. I'm about a 4 on a 1-10 scale for computer savvy. Why is this stuff so user unfriendly? I see from others they are also frustrated.

If you solved the problem let me know please.

    Thanks,

    Glen

If due to some reason, you are unable to deauthorize ADE, follow the below steps:

    Mac:

    1. Go-> Go to folder.

Go to folder dialog will appear.

    2. Type   ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Digital Editions

drag the activation.dat file to the trash.

    ADE will be deauthorized now.

    Now Authorize ADE again.

    ADE will be deauthorized now.

    Now Authorize ADE again.

    Windows:

    Choose Start > Run.

In the Open text box, type regedit and then press Enter. The Registry Editor opens.

In the left pane of the Registry Editor, locate the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adept

Right-click the Adept key and choose Delete.

In the Confirm Key Delete dialog, click OK.

    Your authorization will be deleted.

    ADE will be deauthorized now.

    Now Authorize ADE again.

followed above instructions, and ADE still re-authorizes itself.  ADE is not recognizing my OverDrive acct too, only my 3M acct.  Still says error! check activation even when I try to add a new overdrive acsm book to ADE library.  Cannot deauthorize, already removed adept via regedit.  win7, and latest download of ADE, today.

Cannot access free books from Sample eBook Library | Adobe Digital Editions either

Same! The Forum is the only place to get an answer. Adobe support won't do anything to help, they just tell you to go to the forums.
