I'm not sure what style of xml file this might be.

    • What size are they?
Digital books are typically a few hundred kbytes, or a lot more if they contain pictures.
Information files about books are typically just 1kb or so.
    • Are you sure there are no other files around as well?
    • Do you know what format the originals were?
Where did you get them and how did you read them?

    1. Adobe Reader reads non-DRM .pdf files.
    2. ADE (Digital Editions) reads .acsm files (which are tokens to enable download of real DRM .epub or .pdf)
      and .epub or .pds files.
ADE is mainly for DRM files; it can read non-DRM .epub or .pdf files but there are many better readers around for those.

    Many Thanks

    The average size is1.3kb

This is how an entry reads on my hard drive "...purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/CARL Bradbrook http:ns.adobe.com/digitalpublishing.http:/ns.adobe.com/digitaleditions

    18"

When I purchased these many books they were referred to as simply "pdf"

Please understand I am definitely not that well versed in all these complications

That looks as if it isn't the real .pdf file.

It looks rather as if the backup didn't do what it should have done.

Have you still got the original computer?
