Hi

I have tried to update adobe bridge and I keep getting the same 146 error. I've tried restarting. Uninstalling bridge. I've read the article on taking a few steps to fix error 146 and theres still no solution. When i try to create the folder or rename it given the path below - I don't have access to there, and I am the admin on my computer.

Exit Code: 146

-------------------------------------- Summary --------------------------------------

- 2 fatal error(s), 0 error(s), 1 warnings(s)

FATAL: Error (Code = 146) executing in command 'MoveDirectoryCommand' for package: 'AdobeBridge8.0-mul', version:8.0.1.282

FATAL: Error occurred in install of package (Name: AdobeBridge8.0-mul Version: 8.0.1.282). Error code: '146'

WARN: Failed to move directory '/.adobeTemp/0DCA0FD2-64E6-44DD-9877-CB3FC3D9A60F/1/Adobe Bridge' to '/System/Library/Components/PDFImporter.component/Adobe Bridge CC 2018'

PDFImporter.component isnt a folder, i have to click "show package contents" to get in there.

I am wondering if it is part of the new SIP system that Mac has setup? About System Integrity Protection on your Mac - Apple Support

Specifically referring to this - System Integrity Protection includes protection for these parts of the system: /System

Is apple blocking the modification of files and folders in the systems folder?

FIXED!!

I had to disable Apple SIP. Booted into safe mode and got into the terminal.

Follow these steps to disable SIP:

  1. Restart your Mac.
  2. Before OS X starts up, hold down Command-R and keep it held down until you see an Apple icon and a progress bar. Release. This boots you into Recovery.
  3. From the Utilities menu, select Terminal.
  4. At the prompt type exactly the following and then press Return: csrutil disable
  5. Terminal should display a message that SIP was disabled.
  6. From the  menu, select Restart.

You can re-enable SIP by following the above steps, but using csrutil enable instead.

Also suffering from this and am aghast that I have to disable core OS components because Adobe can't write their software properly. Is it me or have things got much worse since Adobe managed to get a direct line to our wallets every month? Sloppy bugs every way you turn.

Adobe is one of the most trustworthy companies I have ever worked with. Every year and step or class I have had them has always been more in value and information than expected. They are very pro artist/photographer and give more than they get in every exchange. Not good to hold the negative point of view - it does not help any situation. Adobe has your back. JH

Goodness me JoanH, you keep drinking that Kool Aid! Everything is perfect. Adobe never screw up. No, having to disable core OS components is a *feature* we should be grateful for!

Was hoping this was finally a fix for me - My machine is not letting my type into the terminal. I must be locked out by our IT company some how.

I just had Apple walk me through the same thing regarding my updates not updating with error code 146.  It is a cumbersome way to update, but it works.

I'm having the same problem. Will try this tomorrow (too late in the day for me now).

However, a user should NOT have to go into an operating system and make changes to said operating system to make software updates work (are you listening/reading Adobe?). As one who did software tech support in the past, that's just asking for trouble.

UPDATE 12/29: This worked!! Thanks for the info!!

I completely agree with this comment.  I waited about a month to see if Adobe would get around to fix the updater.  Nope.  However disabling Apple SIP worked a treat!

My reboot (Late 2015 MacBookPro running High Sierra) brings me to a window with about 5 options, none of them are letting me get to the Utilities/Terminal.
