Lightroom 6 update issue

I have Lightroom 5 on my iMac and have just purchased the update to LR6.

The email that confirms my purchase informs me that I've purchased Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 6 (Mac/Win,English) and gives me a serial number.

However, when I follow the download link I'm offered three versions of Lightroom, Mac/Win English, Windows Multiple Languages and Mac Multiple Languages.

The Mac/Win English download has my serial number against it the the next column states that the download is "not applicable".

The other two show no serial number and offer a download link. In desperation I tried the Mac Multiple Languages link and this downloaded, but it will not install, stating that I don't have an applicable product on my Mac to upgrade from.

I'm stuck.

How do I download and install the product that Adobe tell me I've purchased?

Brian

    Hi everyone,

If anyone is having difficulty downloading or activating LR6 the regular way, then you can just follow these three steps...

First, you can easily download the latest release using the LR6 direct links instead (for Win/Mac):

New Adobe Lightroom 6/CC Direct Download Links – Free Trials

(Be sure to follow the download instructions on that page before clicking the links.)

Next, if you want to buy a LR6 standalone license (either Full or Upgrade) instead of CC, Adobe has got that here:

Purchase Adobe Software Products - Most Popular

(You may need to change your region in the lower left of that page, if it doesn't switch automatically to your country.)

...and then finally check out these instructions to permanently activate the product/trial installed on your system:

Lightroom Help | Serialize Lightroom CC trial to activate as Lightroom 6

(That will convert the Lightroom CC subscription version on your computer to a Lightroom 6 perpetual licensed copy.)

Hope that helps!  Just post back if you have any further difficulties.

Same problem with not finding the upgrade version and not paying for the CC. It took me quite a while to find it and now I just have it on my DVD. I purchased 2 licenses as I need to install it on 2 computers and additionally on my laptops. Every time when I run the upgrade, LR stated that it could not find an existing version on my computer (LR 5.7 was installed) and I had to retrieve the previous serial number in order to be able to install it.

Well, at least now I have everything installed but did not like to splash screen - the worst this software ever had. I turned it off so this is not a problem but I cannot fox the problem on the top left of the screen where my logo is which is now half cut off on the bottom. Funny thing is this does not happen on all the computers running LR - same logo.

Good luck to everybody to find the paid upgrade version.

I finally found the solution to the problem I was having.  I don't know if this will help anyone, but I'll put it out there anyway.  As I said in my previous comment, in previous upgrades I was having problems with Lightroom not launching if I performed the upgrade from within the CC App Manager and Adobe had provided an alternate link to download the upgraded version separatly.  The result was (because I didn't clean up after these upgrades) was that I had multiple versions of Lightroom on my system (Windows 7):  Ver 5.4 and 5.7.  In the start menu, these displayed as separate lanuch icons including the version in the txt.

Yesterday, when I decided to take the chance and upgraded Lightroom from within the CC App Manager, it performed the upgrade, said it was up to date, but I did not notice that it created another version of Lightroom WITHOUT any of the version numbers in the title.  This version was buried down in the "All Programs" folder of the Windows 7 start menu.

TODAY, still a little frustrated, I opened the CC App Manager, It still said up to date.  I launched Lightroom (from the old 5.7 icon, or rather a shortcut to one of my existing lcats which was tied to this old version)  I went to the "Check for Updates" and it said new software was available and showed the new features available in ver 6.  I'm not sure why it didn't show this info yesterday but there it was.  I clicked the Download button which took me to the lightroom page on Adobe.  There was a download button near the top right.  It was there yesterday, but all it did was download a CC App Manager install file.   So, I went ahead and did the install again, but it just went directly to opening the App Manager.  I signed out of the App Manager, and signed back in....still no apparent change.

THEN, AND HERE'S HOW I FOUND OUT THE UPGRADE HAD ACTUALLY BEEN INSTALLED:  I ACCIDENTALLY clicked on the Lightroom Icon itself in the CC App Manager.  To my surprise, it launched the window showing a list of my catalogs asking me which one I wanted to open.  I didn't even realize I had clicked the icon.   I chose one of my older, less valued catalogs to be opened...viola!  It said I needed to upgrade the catalog.  Wow!  I cancelled out because I didn't want to upgrade without understanding what was going on.  I tried to launch that catalog as I would usually do and it opened right away in version 5.7.....what the hell?!?!  Then I had the thought that maybe I had accidentally clicked that icon, so I manually made a backup copy of that catalog and it's previews folder in Explorer.  I clicked directly on the Lightroom icon in the CC App Manager.  It opened the "choose catalog" window again.  I choose the catalog, upgraded it and it opened the upgraded catalog  IN VERSION 6.  Wow!!

So, being Windows, not Mac, I had to associate the lrcat file type with the NEW Lightroom.exe file, I've upgraded the remaining catalogs and I'm good to go.  So, apparently, my previous frustration comment about Adobe maybe fixing the upgrade issue is no longer a valid comment....they have fixed that problem, for my situation at least.

Like I said I don't know if this helps anyone else, but I thought I'd put it out there.

Well - add me to the list of people who paid for LR6 upgrade, but are unable to download it.

I get that Not Applicable on the order page, with download links for the WIndows version and for the Multiple languages version.  But I want to download the Mac English version that I paid for.

Been on hold with Adobe for about an hour now, after speaking to 3 different people who all transferred me to someone else.

I was in the middle of working on a project using a LR5 Trial, when my trial ran out, and I tried to buy it, but was told by Adobe that I have to buy 6.  In the meantime, I need to get back to work on these pics but I can't.

    I HATE Adobe!

Hi Bill and coachgns , Bill glad you got sorted , I have it now but ... all my photos say “ file not found “ in the library , what a mess, not sure what to do now , there must be a way of deleting all the folders and starting again from scratch and importing everything .

Coachgns - try the chat , I did and my man Nikhil Kaira did remote support , i.e. took over my computer and installed the cc installer and then installed Lightroom , all done . So .... do the chat and hopefully some nice support person will do it all for you like they did for me ..

I can't even get to the Adobe Lightroom Product age.

My Lightroom 5.7 prompts me for the upgrade but the download button flashes up the Lightroom page in a browser then immediately goes to an Adobe 404 page.

Even navigating to the Adobe Lightroom Product page via the main page gives the same result (adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom.html).

I'm trying to reach it from the UK.

I'm not interested in CC either and I hate the way Adobe seems to be pushing in that direction. I'm a photographer primarily and have used Lightroom since before it *was* Lightroom, RawShooter days. That did everything I needed back then, not sure I really need 'face recognition' anyway!

I have The CC Photographer's package which includes Lightroom.  There have "always" been issues with updating Lightroom through the CC App Manager in that Lightroom will not launch once installed.  The last update, and if memory serves, actually the last two updates, Adobe has confirmed there is a problem with this and has provided a link via these forums to install Lightroom independent from the CC App Manager.

Is this still the case with Lightroom 6?  If so, can somebody please provide the independent link, or maybe resolve the issue with Lighroom updates and the CC App Manager?

    Thanks,

    Bill

I managed to upgrade my desktop LR 5 to 6 and it was not easy. I am on this site to post my disgust with Adobe's methods to promote there CC. I don't want CC and actively dissuading customers from a product you sell by making it difficult for customers to purchase should be stopped. I want Adobe management marketers and whoever can change these antagonistic tactics to know that these tactics will eventually backfire. I encourage them to concentrate on making your customers lives difficult to promote something they don't want and focus on making sure your products that they want and purchased are easy to install. If you don't your competitors will. Also, I would encourage you to fix your feedback system to something friendly to your customers.

I'm starting to feel very much the same way...  I'm starting to consider looking at other options... Adobe has made upgrading from my purchased copy of Lightroom 5 to Lightroom 6 extremely difficult and I feel like it's purposely to drive their customers to go the CC route. This really offends my sensibilities!!!.

I've paid for the upgrade but they've made it impossible for me to download and install it! In these days and times who wants another monthly bill for something you never own.

The longer I go without the software I've paid for already the more l'm inclined to find other options... Apple please rescue those of us held hostage by adobe!

I finally managed to upgrade my lightroom.

When you are on adobe.com website, go to "menu", then "all products" , down in that list you will find lightroom. clic on "buy" you will then be able to switch "full" to "upgrade"... you will be able to choose mac/pc also at that stage. add it to your cart! done.

it would be nice to add a link on the webpage... I know adode would prefer if people registre to CC. But some of us simply prefer to have a permanent license.

Glad to see someone has had success.  My download is still listed as "not applicable" so I'll wait a little longer to see if its status changes before wasting any more time trying to make contact with Adobe.

The Adobe shop site reported an error a miniute or two again when I logged in so perhaps things are happening.

Brian mine is exactly the same,I still get the not applicable thing too .

Ive been on the phone with Adobe for the past 20 mins and he sent me a link to download Lightroom upgrade ... this is what happened when I clicked on it ...

    Access Denied

You don't have permission to access "http://trials3.adobe.com/AdobeProducts/LTRM/6/osx10/Lightroom_6_LS11.dmg?" on this server.

    Absolutely fed up !!

Thanks for taking time out to phone Adobe.  They clearly have a serious issue to fix for some of us. My CC friends have mostly managed to get the upgrade. I'm kind of hoping that the non-CC issue is widespread so that Adobe are more likely to fix it soon! Or is that naive? Not at all happy that I've paid for an upgrade that I can't use and wondering just how much wasted time this is going to lead to.

Ive replied to the two emails ( order confirmation and order Acknowledgements ) from the store manager but they both came back so thats no good. Ive rung the number three times that is given on the email , queer dialling tone and no one answers anyway .

This is really not good enough ... oh and still nothing in the download box for Mac/ English .

Same here Brian, there is no download button on the top mac / english link , getting very annoyed actually as the phone number they gave in case of problems does not work ..

What a very inefficient web site , not impressed at all . Now what ?

Am surprised you managed to download the upgrade to Lightroom 6, I could not even achieve that! (I use an iMac too).

Adobe's site seems now geared to lead one the "arm twisting" way to enter a subscription to Lightroom CC, as the download of a standalone upgrade seems to have become so difficult.

Look forward to guidance from Adobe as how to proceed, thank you Adobe

Yes, like you, I first arrived at the CC page. I don't now remember how I escaped that to place my order just for a LR6 upgrade. I don't seem to be able to reproduce it now that I've already made the purchase. But anyway, I wouldn't recommend following the path I took either ;(
