MSVCP100.dll file problem

Every time I try and open CS5 I get a message saying that a file  - MSVCP100.dll is missing. Once I've tried to delete this message  approx 20 times the message finally disappears and I can open Photoshop.  Obviously the file isn't missing, but is being troublesome to read. I  have run the Microsoft patches to fix this problem, and have also run a  commercial dll file fixer with no success. I have even copied the  relevant file from Windows disc onto my laptop but it still doesn't want  to work. It is looking like CS5 for some reason cannot allways  recognise the file. Is there a fix that I can use for this?

It seems Nik Software may be the culprit.

Nik Software Customer Service toll free at 1-888-284-4085 but closed for weekend.

I did reinstall Nik yesterday and everything seemed ok.  Now problems again today.

Well I have Nik installed, but haven't used it for a couple of weeks. I'll certainly try that before uninstalling the whole shebang.

On top of the dropdown box containg the error message the heading says "Owl Orphanage". Googling this seems to indicate that it is a problem with Photoshop and not Windows. Once I've repeatedly hit the delete key the message disappears and everything works normally. This seems to tell me that CS5 and Windows are not properly talking to each other, rather than the file is missing. What I don't know is which end of the chain the problem lies.

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately the link refers to fixing the MSVCR100.dll file, whereas mine is the MSVCP11.dll file. I know diddly squat about computers, but can follow instructions. Do you know if the same procedures will work form different files than shown in the link? I don 't want to cause more mayhem on here!!!

i don't know if it will work but you shouldn't cause any irreparable harm because you never delete files.  you just rename and move.  you should always be able to return to your original setup should the changes you make fail to help.
