photoshop elements 6 will not open!

Purchased photoshop elements 6.  My dad has that one and recommended it for what I want to do with photos.  It was the only elements in our budget and since my dad uses it, I figured instant help should I need it.
I tried installing it.  It said it was installed, but it will not open.  Tried uninstalling it then reinstalling it and restarting computer.  Did not work.  Tried to run it as an administrator.  Did not work.
I have windows vista 64 bit.
If I can't get this to work, I know I won't be buying anything from adobe ever again and will tell all my friends that want to get into editing their photos to stay far, far, far away from photoshop elements.

Photoshop Elements 6 is an older edition. You just purchased it? It is 4 to 5 years old. It was not designed for 64-bit OS. You may be able to use it in XP compatiblity mode. Have you tried that?

Yes, I just bought it, from a place on Amazon.com.  I don't have money for a newer version.  Yes, I tried running it in compatibility mode.

Yes, I just bought it.  I got it at amazon.com because: 1. it's the one I could afford and 2. my dad has it and therefore could provide help as needed (not always good at understanding directions).

No, there is no error message.  I chatted with adobe and they informed me it's not compatible with my computer, in spite of what I was told when I purchased it and in spite of what is written on the box.  I will never purchase anything from them again and am telling all my friends that are getting into photo editing to stay far, far, far away from PSE.

You bought an outdated version of a computer program that was made before the operating system you are trying to run and blame the computer software. No the problem was that you bought outdated software not designed for the computer you own. This is not Adobe's or Photoshop Elements fault. That would be like buying a diesel car and putting gasoline in the car and complaining that your car doesn't run.  I'd recommend contacting the seller and trying to return the software. If you had purchased direct from Adobe they provide a 30-day money back guarantee.
