"Error while accessing the preference files... please verify the file permissions and try again"

I've tried installing After Effects trial and have received the error:

"After Effects can't continue: Error while accessing the preference files inside "/Users/Kelly/Library/Preferences/Adobe/After Effects/13.5", please verify the file permissions and try again."

I'm unable to verify file permissions because this file path doesn't exist.

I'm on a 2013 15" Retina Macbook Pro running OSX 10.9.5

Premiere Pro successfully downloaded. After Effects wont open and wont allow me to start a trial (because it thinks I've already started it?)

Thanks for any help ya'll can offer!

I've also successfully installed and used Photoshop and Media Encoder. It's just After Effects that is playing up, which was the original app I was trying to install.

If I uninstall and reinstall will my 30 day trial still be usable?

Kelly please Contact Customer Care where the agent can remote into your machine and help you fix the issue.

That's what I tried first, but the only mode of contact the page offered was to talk to the forums (and yes, I'm signed in)

Hi Kelly,

  • Set the permissions to 'Read and write' on Adobe folders for the all the users in the following locations:
    • /Library/Preferences/
    • /Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/
  • Restart the machine.

Sheena

Thanks Sheena,

I don't have /Library/Preferences/Adobe or /Users/Kelly/Library (see pictures below)

I changed permissions to read+write for all users for the following:

  • /Library/Preferences
  • /Library/Application Support/Adobe
  • /Users/Shared/Library/Application Support/Adobe

and then restarted my computer to no avail.

Thanks for your help.
