Creative Cloud Desktop vs Creative Cloud Packager?

I reported an issue to Adobe Support where the Creative Cloud Desktop app (Or one of the Adobe apps we are installing from the Creative Cloud) is installing the Microsoft Visual C++ 2012 software. We have uninstalled the app to have it reinstalled the same day.

Adobe pointed me to the following article.

Choose Visual C++ runtime versions to install (adobe.com)

It specifically states that the article is for admins that are using the Creative Cloud Packager to deploy packages to user's desktops. I have no idea what this CCP software is. I'm simply installing the Creative Cloud Desktop application.

Am I missing something, or is the Adobe Support just simply wrong?

They are wanting to close the case, without further explanation.

HI @JamesA-FAB yes Creative Cloud Packager can be used to create custom deployment packages.

Adobe is installing Microsoft Visual C++ 2012, which is no longer supported, onto our desktops.  I want it to be removed, and stay gone.

How is that done?

Adobe pointed me to that article.  I don't believe that answers my issue, as it discusses Creative Cloud Packager, which I don't know anything about.

you can use your ms control panel to uninstall it.  i just don't know what that's going to do for the apps that use it.

I don't know if you're meaning to mess with me, but in my original post I stated that we've uninstalled the software  and Adobe keeps installing it over and over.

We already have Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 installed on the machines, the applications should be able to operate without an issue with the newer version of the software.  However, if there is an absolute requirement that Visual C++ 2012 needs to be installed, I need some kind of documentation from Adobe stating the requirement.  My Information Security department is requiring either the software be removed, or documentation proving it is required, from Adobe.

My other question... which is the title of the thread, what if any difference is there between CC Desktop App and this thing called CC Packager?  Does anyone have experience with it?  What is it for?  Can it be used to create a customized CC Desktop installation, that wouldn't install Visual C++ 2012?

sorry.  i'm not trying to cause more problems.

but yes, ms visual c++ is needed by adobe apps.  there are a number of adobe web pages devoted to dealing with ms visual c++ problems when installing adobe apps, but i don't know of any that supply exactly what you want.

the cc packager is for enterprise deployment (they still need visual c++, but they can control which visual c++ is installed).

this is probably the clearest statement that adobe on windows requires visual c++, https://helpx.adobe.com/enterprise/kb/choose-cpp-runtime-versions.html

adobe pages dealing with visual c++ problems,

The first article you linked, is the article I provided in my original post.

The following four articles all deal with errors, so those aren't of help.

So how is Creative Cloud Packager used?  Sounds like it can be used to create a custom deployment?

it is, but you'll still need visual c++.  you can just control which version(s), if there's a particular one (or two) you want to avoid.  but you can't avoid them all.  that's the upshot of that page and why i posted despite you already knowing of its existence. specifically,

I'm attempting to use that packager now.  I'm not wanting to strictly control the version of the adobe products we are installing.  We would like the Creative Cloud to be able to continue to update the software to the latest version.  Is there a way to have that indicated, currently it appears I have to identify the base version of the software.

I don't want to be having to update this package every X months as new versions come out.

Self Service options are available.

https://helpx.adobe.com/enterprise/using/manage-self-service-policies.html

It sounds like you're fairly new to the Enterprise Portal and managing with it. I would highly suggest scheduling a walk-through overview with your Adobe account team to make sure you are starting off on the right foot.

Having them give you 1:1 tailored training is much more effective than reading up on helpX notes from a public forum.

Not blowing you off but want you to be set up to succeed.

This suite of applications has been one of the few items in the company that we haven't had to deal with beyond install and forget.  So yes, this is all new to me.  I don't know of having any kind of Adobe Account Team, but I haven't been having to deal with the purchasing of licenses.  When looking at the Admin console, I'm not seeing anything saying "Enterprise".  If there was a specific name I could refer to for our license it would be "Creative Cloud for Teams".  We have a total of 8 licenses that we have simply had to install Creative Cloud Desktop onto the machines and the users can pick and choose any Adobe application and install without concern.

When I go into our Admin console I am seeing the options to build a package.

@JamesA-FAB while in the Admin console do you see a support tab? You can either chat or schedule an expert session in that window.

I do, and I see an Expert Session button.

Does that mean we have an Enterprise license?

Enterprise and Teams are similar in many ways - Teams is for smaller deployments and Enterprise is for larger.

ok.

the issue for you is, is being able to control the c++ versions worthwhile for you.  ie, you're still going to install c++ with that package so i don't see how that's going to help you.

We can have Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 installed without an issue.  We just can't have the 2012 installed.  I said this to you on the 26th, in this thread.  You must be posting a lot on here and forgot.

"You must be posting a lot on here and forgot.":  you got me with that one.  100% correct.

"We can have Microsoft Visual C++ 2015-2022 installed without an issue.: "so, in that case, the packager will help you.

I found it odd that I had to create a custom installation to prevent old software that has reached its EOL to not be installed, but creating a custom Installer package for Creative Cloud worked so that it stopped installing 2012.

Thank you for all the direction provided in this thread.
