I'm using Mac Lion, first time using the subscription.

'We were unable to start your subscription for Adobe Photoshop CS5.1 Extended Subscription Edition'

I understand that these are the steps for windows...

The following steps should allow you to resolve your difficulties:

  1. Locate the hosts file.
  2. Click Start, click Run, type "%systemroot% \system32\drivers\etc" and then click OK.
  3. Right-click the file and select Open. Select Notepad for the application to open the hosts file.
  4. Save a backup of the file. Choose File > Save As. Name the file hosts.backup and click OK.
  5. Find 127.0.0.1 activate.adobe.com and delete this entry.
  6. Save the file and close it.

Help please.

I opened /etc, but was unable to find a host file containg 'activate.adobe.com'

Is it possible I don't have the permission to open it? Or just that I failed to find it.

http://www.windowsandmac.com/edit-locked-host-file-on-mac-osx-lion

This will give your permission to edit the locked host file through terminal.
