IDEA: Support for WebP and AVIF Images

Community Expert ,
Nov 09, 2023 Nov 09, 2023

More & more websites are using newer WebP and AVIF file types.  But not Adobe.

WebP and AVIF offer better picture quality & file compression than JPG, PNG and GIF.

Most browsers support them:

This platform still does not allow embedded WebP or AVIF files.  When can we expect that to change?

@Nancy OShea

See the pinned reply from Stephen Nielson in the Photoshop forum. AVIF is coming soon to the Beta version.

He doesn't mention the forums, but you might ask in that primary thread.

I already use a 3rd party plug-in from Github to achieve what I need.

https://github.com/0xC0000054/avif-format

This forum platform still doesn't support WEBP or AVIF files, despite the fact that Adobe currently uses AVIF on its main website (adobe.com). Go figure.

I have abandoned all hope that this forum platform will be updated. It is what it is.
