Cant add asset to export assets panel

Hi , like the title reads im not able to add an asset i need to export, into the assets panel. it's just text and png grouped. it just show a blocked icon and i cant add it. i tried to ungroup and it doesnt work either. i dont understand why?

this is the first time i try this feature by the way so i might be missing something

what are the possible reasons for this? i cant take a screenshot asi this is a mouse action

ps: i hate this in illustrator, sometimes tools work and most of the times, you have to convert them into obscure formats, group, ungroup make outlines and whatever.. and most of the times it still wont work. so frustrating compared with photoshop, where it asks if you want to convert and that's it.

ps2: as a  workaround im dragging the group into photoshop and exporting as png from there 😕 but im sure there must be a better way

Can you please post a screenshot showing your artwork and links panel. Do you have the latest 2018 versions installed or any plug ins that modify Illustrator?

Try another method rather than drag and drop such as right click on the object and choose Export Selection, or Collect For Export.

What kind of object is that?

Also: when you draw a simple rectangle: can that be added to the Asset Export?

Finally I was able to do it!

The group was in isolation mode so it wont allow me to export the asset. I just right clicked and exit isolation mode. BUT i have to do it with the object selected, otherwise it wont work. weird. seems to be a bug, why wouldn't i be able to do it inside the object?

Hit Escape and try it again

Your solution helped me too... I was trying to isolate one feature, but should have ungrouped instead.
