Hi
I've been having a recurring problem - and I BELIEVE IN ALL ADOBE SOFTWARE - but especially in Illustrator which is what I use 99% of the time (but I've had the same problem in Photoshop)
Initially I thought it was a problem with my hardware - but I bought a NEW machine -
TOP OF THE LINE:
INTEL CORE ULTRA 9 285K with 96GB of RAM
and I still have the same problem:
COPY + PASTE works only when the software wants it to.
SOMETIMES OK
SOMETIMES NOT.
Sometimes I click COPY+PASTE - and done. works.
Sometimes I click COPY+PASTE - and no PASTE. I open the menu EDIT> and no "COPY" too (EDIT menu doesn't have the option "PASTE" - it's "off" = gray) - I need to click, click, click, click - for the "COPY" works and then the "PASTE" option turns "on".
any idea?

Several third party apps are known to interfere with Illustrator's clipboard. Here is list of apps and settings that have been identified by people in this forum to do that.

I’ve had issues with the copy-paste function randomly not working at times, which can be really frustrating. Usually, restarting the application or clearing the clipboard helps, but sometimes it's a deeper issue related to software conflicts. Has anyone found a reliable fix for this?

Hello @koala_geddon,
Would you mind trying to run Illustrator under Safe Mode (Windows / macOS) and checking if it helps? If yes, try running with your usual set of applications one at a time to find the conflicting application and share your observations.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

The problem persists here. COPY-PASTE works "when it wants to"
And not only via keyboard (to isolate the problem) - the same thing happens when clicking directly on the menu:
EDIT > COPY
with the mouse.
You can see that even when clicking on "COPY" the "PASTE" option is not active.
Suddenly, with any click, it activates.
NO THIRD PARTY SOFTWARE INSTALLED.
really frustrating

No. and the same issue occurs with another computer.

only on Adobe softwares, specially Illustrator and Photoshop (Most used here).
no issues with Office - for example.

The question is not whether it works in that software, but whether you have that software installed and running. Several things running parallel to Illustrator can interfere with the clipboard.
Does the clipboard work when you boot into Safe Mode?

Hi @Monika Gause
frist of all, tks for take a time to help me!
This problem has been bothering me for a few years now - exclusively with Adobe.
As I mentioned, I thought it was a problem with my hardware.
However, in January I replaced my PC with a new one - ultra modern, with the best Intel processor and the best graphics card at the moment, faster SSD - and I still have the problem.
I thought it could be the keyboard - the only item that migrated from the previous PC (the mouse was also changed) - and as I said - even clicking directly on the menu with the mouse - the problem persists.
The problem remained in the practically "RAW" new machine - without any software installed, only OS, Office and Adobe.
About using it in Safe Mode, of course, it's not a natural operation - so I can't tell you if it works or not - but I'll do some testing - The problem is that as I said - there is no rule for the problem to occur. It occurs randomly.
tks.

Office can be among the apps that interfere.

Hello @Monika Gause and @Stuart BDM
@Monika Gause
As I said, I have one of the most powerful machines for development today:
Intel Core Ultra 9 285K
Asus Geforce RTX 5090 Astral OC
192GB DDR5 (upgrade this month)
2TB Crucial SSD T705 PCI Gen5
4TB Kingston Fury Renegade SSD
- with a Z890 Gigabyte Aorus Master.
New PC, Clean Installation.
I know you are doing your best to help but being a "Community Expert" - I don't know what direct link you have with Adobe, however, if you are an employee of theirs, it doesn't seem fair to blame the software on third-party software.
Again, I'm very grateful for your help - I'm just wondering how much you're defending Adobe - how would it work if you blindly believe the product is perfect - or if you're a user like me who's volunteering to help others as a hobby.
But when we get to a situation where Adobe's software is perfect and the fault lies with all the other third-party software (which is working perfectly) - we are in a situation where I practically need to have a machine exclusively for Adobe - because any other third-party software will harm Adobe's perfection, you understand?
And that doesn't seem right to me.
I'm not the only one with the same problem, others are having it and reporting it - like @Stuart_BDM - and they can't find a solution for it, FOR YEARS!
that being said, @Stuart BDM
It took me 1 month to respond to the post because I believe I found a solution to the problem.
I tested this solution over the last 30 days and it apparently solved the problem (or reduced it so much that it became unnoticeable).
Once or twice, I may have had the COPY-PASTE problem - but we can even attribute this to pressing the wrong key, etc. - and not necessarily to the problem anymore.
What did I do?
My native language is PORTUGUESE - so the screen is in PT-BR
In Illustrator:
EDIT > Preferences > "Clipboard handling" (something like this) > uncheck "Include SVG Code"
OK
Restart Illustration. Done.
Since I made this adjustment, I haven't had the problem anymore - or it has reduced a lot.
- I believe it is the definitive solution, but it requires more testing time -
Good luck!
Daniel

Daniel, I feel your pain. The only thing I've found remotely helpful is to close Microsoft Outlook. I also have none of the previously identified programs running and have just had to put up with it. It's been like this for me for years and I've given up that adobe will ever fix this. Maybe it'll get sorted around the time they make the core code multi-threaded!
The only other advice I'd given is don't bother with using the keyboard shortcuts as you don't know it's copied so it makes it more frustrating. Oh, and move everything you're about to copy to the top of the screen so when you right click to get the drop doen copy paste options they appear near where you click. It makes the 10 to 20 clicks required a little bit quicker. Bit pathetic really that it comes down to this.
Best of luck, your fellow long-suffering illustrator daily driver.
