"VA" option for spacing in Character Panel is not opening while editing text in Illustrator

Hey all! I'm wondering if someone can help me with a worry I have. I am creating a logo on Adobe illustrator and the "VA" tool for spacing will not come out. I can't even select the entire text to make it bigger. I can only select one letter each time. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Please show a screenshot.

You are talking about the tracking and kerning settings in the Character panel, right? They are not tools.

Is it really live type or converted to outlines.

If you choose View > Outline, and the text is filled with black it is live type. If you see the text as outlines, there is no way to kern it, you need to move the character outlines manually.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out. It seems the text is converted to outline. I would request you to share a few more details along with the one asked by @Ton Frederiks and @Monika Gause:

  • OS and version of Illustrtaor
  • Did you received a file or downloaded any vector assets from the web?
  • Screenshot of the text, including the Character and layers panel (expand group if any in the layer panel).

I will be looking forward to your response.

Regards,

Anshul Saini
