Hello.
I've been experiencing an issue in the latest release of Adobe Illustrator (29.8.1). After creating artwork in the centre of the canvas and inlcuding text boxes I've encountered an error where the text moves outside of the box diagonally and moves the other objects with it. If I click on the text the text box is selected, but in its original position. It's only after resizing the text box that the text itself reverts back to appearing in the box. This has been an issue before, in earlier version, but this is now moving non-text objects away from their original position. I've had to correct two artworks that have had this error already. The only trigger I can think of is when the artwork is saved under a new filename after being created - for a duplicate file as an example. Please see the screenshots below for further context.
Hi All,
Thank you for reaching out and reporting the issue. We are checking with the team about this issue and get back to you shortly with an update. For now, could you please upvote this UserVoice and add your comments?
Thank you for your patience.

Hello everyone,
The product team has asked for more details. Can you check if this happens with specific files, and if yes, share a link to a sample file after uploading it to a file-sharing service, so we can check it on our end?
Note: When sharing the file, kindly make the link public and enable the option to Save a Copy/Download (if any).
Looking forward to hearing from you.

Hi everyone,
Thank you all for sharing your detailed feedback, screenshots, and files. I wanted to let you know that we now have a bug logged for this issue, and the product team is actively investigating it. The reports and examples you've provided have been extremely helpful in identifying the behavior.
I'll keep you posted here as soon as there are any updates or a fix becomes available.
Appreciate your continued patience and collaboration while the team works on resolving this.

Some of us have had luck clicking on the text boxes (not the shifted text) and resizing them slightly, and the text pops back into place. Another user (Wendos) on Monday found another method that worked.
Once they're fixed, make sure you save a PDF of your file, in case it happens again.

I have the exact same issue. Very disturbing when you open a massive Illustrator file and it doesn't look like it did when you left it. Please fix ASAP!

Same thing is happening to me. And I've shared the file with someone else to double check. But for me, you can add graphics and photos to the items that have shifted. And if I open the file and immediately try to close it without touching anything, it asks me if I want to save changes.

Bonjour,
Illustrator détruit mes mises en page une fois que les fichiers sont fermés. Que dois-je faire?
Merci!

Hi, I've recently had problems with graphics on an Illustrator file moving way off their artboards after closing then opening the file again. I had several artboard set up, to design a storyboard for a short video. There's nothing complex about the graphics, just shapes, text, vector format icons and simple illustrations. When I closed the file and opened it again later that day, everything had shifted down and left, way off the artboards.
I uninstalled and reinstalled Illustrator, but I'm now on a different job today and it's just happened again. Any ideas why this is happening? It's wasting so much time trying to fix it, only for it to keep happening.

if possible, could you please share the screenshots "before" and "after" closing the file? And what is the file format and saving settings?

I've blurred the pics as these aren't live jobs yet, but you'll still get the idea of what's happening.
I don't have a 'before' pic as such, as it went wonky and I had to restart the job in Figma, so it looks slightly different (the BEFORE pic attached here). But as you can see by the attached AFTER pic, in Illustrator the graphics just moved all over the place. The white rectangles are the artboards where the graphics should be.
It's an Illustrator .ai file I'm having issues with - I've attached a pic of the Save settings. I'm using Illustrator 29.8.1

I've also tried uninstalling then reinstalling Illustrator - still the same outcome. I'm at the point I can't use Illustrator for work, having to do stuff in Figma instead.

looks really strange. As far as I can see, the different artboards move in different directions. Is your working version 2020, not the latest? Could you collect several artboards into a new file and share it for us to try repeating the problem?

I've already asked a couple of my colleagues to open a new file that I created with a few of the artboards, and it ended up doing the same for them. I also restarted the job 3 times with a new file and the same thing happened each time. They have no issues with the Illustrator files they've set up for other jobs on their Macs though. It does seem like something wrong with my Illustrator, but no-one can figure out what.

This is the version options I get to save it. I can always try saving as something other than 2020 and see if that helps.

there might be some nuances in file settings, etc. Please, share the small file to try to see what it might be.
and please make a screen with the AI version info (Help > About Illustrator). Without this info, we can't create a bug report if it's needed.

maybe it would be possible to put the file in some source (e.g., Google Drive) and share the link?

yes, there is a problem. And what happens if you save in another format, let's say, PDF? Does it also move the objects?

No, before the graphics moved off the artboards, I managed to import each frame into an Indesign presentation file and save that as a pdf with no issues. The Illustrator file can be exported as a jpg or pdf and nothing moves.

ok, thanks for the info. So, you can create a backup in PDF before saving AI format: File > Save As or Save a Copy > PDF. It can help if something goes wrong.
