Can’t export as .ai file from illustrator app on ipad

New Here ,
May 21, 2022 May 21, 2022

I've been working on a file for a while and have been able to export as .ai previously, but now when I click export as ai the 'exporting' text appears and then just disappears and nothing happens. Other files are fine.

I want to save it and then scale it to a new larger art board to finish work on it. I've been working on a small scale as the tools I want to use come out better like the pencil for outlining elements of the picture.. It has over 60 layers at the moment and I don't know whether file size is the issue.
I have iPad Air 3rd gen.

any help or suggestions appreciated!

I figured out that my problem is I am trying to open that file in Adobe illustrator CS6 and therefore I’m losing data it’s not because there’s a problem with the iPad illustrator file so I have subscribed to the creative cloud illustrator and I cannot open those files without loss of data

Thank you for your attention to this.

It should be saved as an AIC file in your Creative Cloud account. Can't you just open it from your Home screen on the desktop?

Thanks, I can access the file fine, but I can't save it as an .ai file. If I export as svg and then create a new file with this I can save it as ai, but not from the original with all the layers.

It sounds like you're just wanting to create a copy to scale up. Why not go to the Home Screen, tap the three dots and choose "Duplicate?"

Why do you want to create a .ai file at all? .aic files can be opened in Illustrator desktop as well. Are you trying to make the .ai file available for a different app?

having same problem, when i try to export as ai, the option is not available just the quick export as ai which creates a file with lost layers and content sampled via many clipping masks and i have to recreate almost all my layer work.

i try to download file from creative cloud and it says Download Failed!

trying to get the full ai file from ipad to desktop with all the layer info intact.

And when you log out of your Adobe Account and then in again?

Reboot the computer?

Hi @sophiaothman,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble exporting your file as a .ai file from Illustrator on your iPad. Have you tried the suggestions given by Monika?

It sounds like you want to get the full .ai file from your iPad to your desktop with all the layer information intact.

Also, please confirm if you've tried opening the file as a .aic file directly in Illustrator on your desktop.

If you're still experiencing issues, can you please share the file with me so I can take a closer look at the issue?
Ensure that"anyone with the link can view" & "Save a copy" is selected while sharing the link to the document.

This would be really helpful in investigating the "Download Failed" error.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Anshul Saini
