It's a two-step process. You have to (1) Expand the mirror effect which converts the objects to a Group, then (2) Ungroup.

I've had the same question. What worked for me was expand the shape, realease the clipping mask and then ungroup it. And I had also reapeted the mirrored object 5 times, so I had to do this to all of them...
