Huzzah! I finally got the 18.3 update today, and lo and behold; when I clicked on one of the InDesign layout files I worked on yesterday (after the MacOS verified the updated InDesign app) a Finder preview appeared, clear as day! Thanks Adobe!
YES!!! The fix is here! update took care of the problem. Thank you Adobe for listening to your designers needs.

I can confirm that it indeed has something to do with how the recent InDesign update is handling fonts. I performed a similar test, and got the same results you did.

@HARSHIKA_VERMA have you noted these last two posts? Might help with focusing the troubleshooting.

Same for me: New documents, Image only works, image + Minion works, changed Minion to Myriad Pro, FAILS.

This is also happening to me with InDesign 18.1 on a Mac with Monterey 12.5.1. When I create a test file with blocks of colors only, I get a preview but as soon as I add any text in either a supported or unsupported font, I get Preview Not Saved.

Is this still broken, yet marked solved with a "correct answer?"
Please advise if a fix is in the works. Most of us have provided screenshots, sample files, etc.

Any update?

Good question; WHY is it marked as the correct answer? It clearly is not.
How many files need to be sent?
I have tried all of the "so-called answers," and still Nada. Old file, New file, makes no difference.
As soon as a font, any font OTF or TT, is introduced to the document, it will not preview. Regardless if that font is inside of a placed PDF or in a Document where the fonts or turned to outlines. No preview.
ONLY a document with a placed image will create a preview... although a low res preview, but still a preview.

The "correct" answer does work – or rather, it did, once, when I first tried it. But it hasn't worked since, even though "always save preview" is checked. I'm running InDesign 18.1 on a MacBook Pro, OS 12.6.3 (Monterey). In my experience the whole preview issue is incosistent. For example, all InDesign docs preview just fine in Bridge. However, in a finder window (regardless of view in columns, icons, list, or gallery) some files show a preview and some don't, randomly, with no apparent pattern – docoments saved years ago as well as recently may or may not show a preview. Adobe, we expect more from you.

There is no public release of InDesign version 18. 2.
18.1 is the current build.

Hi @josephryan7 ,
there actually is a public release of InDesign 18.2.
But it comes in phases. Not all countries at one time.
My guess for Germany is by the end of the week or early next week.
See what will be fixed in 18.2 :
https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/fixed-issues.html
Oh.
And there is no PostScript Type 1 font support with 18.2.
( It still is with version 18.1. )

Can confirm no update 18.2 in CA...running Ventura 13.1.
Also can confirm same font issues.
File saved with images only, has preview.
File saved with minion pro (default), has preview.
File saved with Poppins (google) NO PREVIEW.
Ran same file test from my older MacBook Pro, running Big Sur 11.7.4
first running Indesign 16.2...all file previews saved...and ironically, visible via BOX sync and DRIVE. (they killed previews for box drive last year or so)
After updating to Indesign 18.1 on MacBook Pro...no previews. (same OS...latest for my old macbook)

Hi @KMHDESIGN,
We understand your frustration, and as rightly said by our expert regarding the update to version 18.2, it's possible that it may not be available in your region yet. Adobe usually rolls out updates gradually, so it may take some time to become available in your area.
We would request you to please wait until the full rollout, and we will keep you posted once the full rollout is done.
We're here to help you.
Thanks,
Harshika

When does it release in the U.S.? My CC app shows all apps are up to date and 18.1 is the latest build. Is there a secret release that you are referring to, because is seems this is not true.

Hi @josephryan7,
Yes. It did not come in the US yet. InDesign releases happen in phases. We'll update you once the full rollout is done.
Thanks,

Hi, I'm working now with the updated version Indesign 18.2 and with monterey 12.6.2 , and have still the same problems. I was really hoping it would finally get solved after the update, but apparently not. Are there people who did get it fixed after the update 18.2 and can therefore see all previews again? I really hope it gets fixed soon. 🤞

I'm having the same problem using Ventura 13.2.1. And yes, my preferences have "Always Save Preview images with Documents" turned on, and it's also on when saving documents. I've tried toggling it, I've tried a dirty save, but nothing brings back the preview for any of my InDesign documents. Sometimes a new document gets a preview, but most often, it doesn't. Can't figure out what triggers it.

Same issue here, "preview not saved" though in settings everything should be right.
MacOS 13.2.1 and Indesign 18.1.

More research. I found this
I ran several tests and have discovered if the ducument has a live font, it will not show a preview. I started with removing old preference files, then created a new document with only graphics. Saved file and preview shows. Next created a new doc and added live text. Saved doc and NO PREVIEW. Created a new doc, added live text, but outlined the fonts and (changed them to curves). Saved the doc and preview works. Then opened the same doc with a working preview, added live text. saved doc. and no preview.
So after spending time on APPLE support because i found Adobe claimed it was an Apple Issue, I ran these tests and it is clearly an ADOBE ISSUE.
I encourage you all to reproduce these tests yourself and let Adobe know about it and maybe they will get it fixed for us all.

I ran this test too and found much the same results. Note that for me at least, at “preview not saved” is only a problem when viewing InDesign (ID) files in a FINDER window. Preview always shows when viewing InDesign files in Bridge.
So, here’s what I found during my y test:

Adobe has fixed this issue it seems. I just noticed it is now working again. Thank you Indesign for the fix!
