We're encountering a new issue which is that inDesign can no longer find files that are stored in Dropbox folders because the root of the file path "Macintosh HD : User : username ..." is different for each of us.
This was never an issue as inDesign seemed to be able to work backwards to find the files in the root folder so there must have been some kind of relative filepath functionality.
This appears to be broken now causing really big workflow issues and a lot of wasted time. Is there a reason why it's stopped working?
I think the problem is the DropBox itself. Go to the DropBox prefeences of each staff member:
Synchronisation: Make sure that all needed files are synchronized and local available. DropBox tries since several weeks to save space on the local disk. Therefore the needed files are not local saved, only in the cloud. But InDesign and other applications need the files local available. You can also go to those files and click with right mouse click and select make local available.

I have the exact same problem. Never used to be an issue but now I am need to relink the files everytime. I have made sure that all the needed files are locally available but this doesn't fix the problem.

I had the same problem, and following worked to solve this for me: In Indesign preferences -> File handling: Make sure that "Check Links Before Opening Document" and "Find Missing Links Before Opening Document" is ticked on. Also set Default relink folder to "Most recent.."
