Hi,
I am trying to automatically create numbered chapter titles and paragraph headings for a report.
What I am trying to achieve is the following;
/ 02
Chapter title
2.1 Paragraph heading
What I am getting is the following
/ 02
Chapter title
02.1 Paragraph heading
It seems that the paragraph heading is copying the format of the chapter numbering for the chapter number. Thereby adding an unwanted "0" to my paragraph heading.
Is there any way to avoid this?
Possibly important to note;
All my chapters are seperate stories, the chapter numbering is set to reset at the start of each story.
My current solution is to create an invisible copy of each chapter title and use that set the counting for the paragraph headings (without the "0")
This is my first post, I hope it is clear enough.
Thank you in advance
Joep

Hi Joep.
There are tricks all right...
Question: How is your list supposed to look like:
Like this:

or like this:

It's quite unclear for me in your original request.
Both situations are possible but are handled slightly differently.

At the moment I would create a paragraph style with a GREP style.
For the leading 0 (at the beginning of a paragraph) apply a Character Style with a GREP functionality.
Set this Character Style to
This will create a non visible 0 automatically.

Unless I misunderstood you, I think this would not work:
Remember Grep styles do no apply to variables, nor automatic numbering.
The trick would work in a TOC, but not in a numbered list...

Create 2 levels of lists, first for Chapter titles, second for paragraph titles

compose the Level2 template without 0. Then you can change Tab symbol in List Lvl1 to Line Break if needed.
But if you have 10 or more chapters, it will be a bit more complex process.
