Document page count stuck

I know the solution has been provided by the forum, it's just that my keyword search falls short.

I have imported a Word document into InDesign successfully.  That resulted in a document X pages long: all of them.  Now I need to edit the text for a better look.  As I do that, the document gets longer but any additional length, and the text within those pages, just disappears.  Where did it go?  More importantly, how do I lengthen the paper and get it back?

I'm guessing the text is overset, which means you have hidden content at the end of the story. Navigate to the last page, and click the red plus icon in the out port at the bottom right of the text frame to load the content. Next, choose Layout > Pages > Add Page to add a new page after the current last page. With the loaded text cursor, Sh+click at the top of the new page to auto-flow the remaining text. Auto-flow will add additional pages to hold the new content.
