Question

Dragging Image into File Disappears

Myself and my team are having an issue where if we load our cursor with an image and drag an image frame out to size it, it looks like the image didn't place. I've double-clicked inside the frame and zoomed WAY out to find the image was lost on a completely different page within the document somewhere, and I have to drag it back to where I've put the image frame. This happens often. If I place an image at full size, this doesn't happen - only when trying to size as it's placed.

Hi @Yolande264701207lhl ,

the other workaround would be to draw out a rectangle first and then place the image to that rectangle.

Before you could apply content fitting options to the rectangle so that the image is placed proportionally and, for example, the frame is filled.

FWIW: Never experienced this bug you are facing myself or read something about it.

Version of InDesign; operating system. What if you drag the frame and then drop the image? Does it happen in all files or just this particular one. Did you scroll to that page? Is that the page highlighted in the pages panel?

Yeah, I know...all questions and no answers but I've never seen anything like this myself, nor have I seen it reported so we need a bit more detail.

We have the most updated version of InDesign (18.5 x64); OS is Windows 11 Enterprise. If we drag the frame and then drop the image into it, that works fine. It has been happening intermittently, which is confusing. The page is highlighted in the pages panel. I'm wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen to them? I've only experienced this over the past few months.

If it's not happening all the time it may be an obscure bug, but you're the first one I see to report it. You could try trashing your preferences if it's on all files or running a single file through IDML.
