Epub Interactivity Preview and Media Panels Frozen/Unresponsive/Blank

Hi there,

Essentially my epub interactivity preview window, media palette, and publish online window freeze/show up only gray/unresponsive. I've seen others have the same issue some outlined here here and here. I tried to follow some of the steps in the replies to previous posts, specifically deleting/renaming some folders but those folders do not exist within my Library > Adobe folders (images below).

The only fix that ~sometimes~ works (not always) is a complete restart - it has to be done multiple times. Deleting preferences helps short term, but the issue always arises again after a few previews. I also have uninstalled Indesign more times than I can count and again, eventually the issue comes back. It's not the file, because it has happened with different projects and some of my work colleagues have had the same issue as well and as stated, others within this forum have had the same problem. It's so frustrating and I don't know what else to do.

I'm currently on Mac OS 13.2.1 and Indesign 18.1.

Here's the Library > Adobe folders that are missing the CEP folder and extensions folder within UXP.

Thanks for any help/insight.

I'm having a similar issue - the my epub interactivity preview window will not show the entire page...it crops every page (screenshots attached). I've gone through and changed the library files as recommended in a previous post (This one....)

BTW, The folders are in the System Library prefs NOT the User Library prefs...I've uninstalled and re-installed InDesign, started w/ all new preferences, changed layout from spreads to pages, increased size of pasteboard, and I just don't know what to do. I'm on MacOS Sonoma 14.5, and using InDesign 19.5.

Hi @lenasal,

I'm sorry you're still dealing with these frustrating issues. It sounds like you've tried a lot of the recommended steps already, which must be really disheartening when the problem persists.

I see you already renamed the UXP folder and uninstalled & reinstalled the app. Please check if you renamed the folder from the correct location:

  • Rename the CEP folder to CEP.old from the following location:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe
  • If that doesn't help, rename the UXP folder to UXP.old from the following locations:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe
    ~/Library/Application Support/Adobe

Also, please check if this issue happens with other files or just this specific one. Sometimes, a file-specific issue can cause unexpected behavior.

Additionally, updating your macOS to version 14.6 might help, as updates can sometimes resolve underlying compatibility issues. If that doesn’t work, try resetting InDesign preferences & cache manually (https://adobe.ly/3yH0kxX).

Preferences: ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version [#]
Cache: ~/Library/Caches/Adobe InDesign/Version [#]

I know how disruptive this can be, and I really hope one of these solutions works for you. Please keep us posted on how it goes, and we'll continue to assist you until we get this resolved.

Best,

Anshul Saini

If this is happening over and over again after resetting your preferences, I am going to guess that you have some kind of system issue that goes beyond any issue with InDesign.

As far as locating those folders/files, they may be hidden and you'll have to enable their display. I'm a Windows guy and I don't recall the command for that.
