Exporting from InDesign to PDF and printing as booklet. Size comes out different than InDesign print

Hi

I'm exporting my InDesign file with doc setup as page size 138mm x 8 in. When I'm printing through InDesign print booklet, it's printing perfectly. When I'm converting to PDF and printing booklet from PDF, the size reduces automatically of the whole page.

I'm on this issue from quite a few weeks. Will really appreciate some help.

This is without setting any bleed. Have the same problem with bleed as well.

Reduce to fit is a default setting in Acrobat. Turn it off.

I'm printing booklet, can't find such option there. I did that to printer settings, still not working.

For proofing purposes, increase the bleed to .5" and set the inside bleed to 0. add small crop marks in InDesign. Export to PDF without cropmarks, using the document bleed settings.

Here is a related link with more information:

You could also export a PDF without bleed or crop marks (for the proof only) which should also work.

As a matter of curiosity, why are you mixing units (mm and inches)?

Is this job for printing to your desk-top printer or to go out to a commercial printers?

I don't know, I am getting options of different units. Didn't try to fix it as it was not bothering me a lot.

I'm building a catalog and it'll go out to commercial printers for a bulk print. Whenever I'm trying to print to show my manager I have to print through indesign.

I suggest you set up your document with Print as the intent, with Facing Pages, select a Page Size (TPS) and to this add 3mm trim for bleed to all edges except the centre fold. And use consistent units – mm or inches (points for type etc).

After finalising your document export it as a PDF/X-4, selecting single pages (not spreads) and ticking Crop Marks and Use Document Bleed Settings. Check this with your commercial printer.

Will your manager proof/approve a PDF or does s/he need a mocked up printed copy?

(Printing from InDesign is not recommended.)
