hello,

what if i want to manually write the word "figure" in my images captions and only after put the autonumber from the paragraph style ?

my goal is to have captions look like Fig. 1, Fig. 2, Fig. 3 and so on, and the possibility to refer only the number of the caption without the word "Fig. "

thx for your advice

This is so simple in FrameMaker, which supports paranum (text and auto-number) and paranumonly (just the auto-number) in an cross-reference. Someone has already logged this as a feature request, please consider voting for it.

If you go to Object > Captions > Caption Setup, you can enter text that you want to appear before the caption. Although this won't work if your caption style is a numbered list. You'll probably need to pull the number from a metadata filed in the image.

thx Chad,

as you write my caption is a numbered list.

so it is not possible to reference to some images only with the number whithout the prefix ?

I mean something like this:

"[CUT] please see figure 10, 11 and 12".

at this time i'm able to produce the complete text of the caption:

"[CUT] please see figure 10, figure 11 and figure 12", this because the prefix "figure" is inside the number field of my caption paragraph style.

Oh yeah, you can totally do that. To accomplish that you would use cross-references not captions. Window > Type and Tables > Cross References.

I'm not sure I understand waht you want to do, but if your caption style is a Numbered List, then the Fig. prefix can be added to the number in the options by typing it in to the number field befor the number marker.

thx Peter,

I dont want to write the prefix "Fig. " in the number field befor the number marker. I just want the number marker in the number field. Despite of this I want to have the caption look like "Fig. + [number marker]". Is there a way to do so ?

thx
