Find/Change: findings in overset text

Question

Hello!Once in a while, the Find/Change dialog finds text which it can't jump to. The search filter excludes master pages and everything that is locked or hidden. Preflight doesn't show that there is overset text. I have conditional text, but searching with all conditional text shown, it would still find that ominous overset text and I cannot figure out where it is.Any clues? TIA.

Thanks for sharing the details here. I can understand how confusing it must be when Find/Change points to text that you can't locate on the layout.

As Mike suggested, I'd definitely recommend opening the Story Editor and checking there. Story Editor displays all the text in a story, including any overset content that isn't visible in the layout, so it's a great way to track down hidden or mysterious text that Find/Change is catching.

To do this, simply select the text frame or story and go to Edit > Edit in Story Editor. Once open, you should be able to see and navigate to the exact text that's being found, even if it's overset or otherwise not shown on the page.

If that still doesn't help, could you let me know which version of InDesign and which OS you're using? Also, please confirm if this happens in all documents or only in specific ones.

Additionally, if possible, please share a short screen recording demonstrating the steps you're following until you encounter the issue. This will help us better understand what's happening and check with the team if needed.
