Hi All,

Is there a utility that will generate a photo of a pdf showing what it will look like when printed?

Thanks,

Ed.

I can't make any sense of your question, Ed.

Do you mean something like a 3D rendering of a book, as if it's a photo of the printed book on a table?

Hi

I can't explain it any better - somewhere there is a utility that takes a
pdf such as a trifold design and generates a photo that looks like the pdf
was printed. Canva does it when you go to print a design.

Cheers,

Ed.

Either open the PDF in Photoshop or export the INDD file as JPG (when you have the InDesign original).

Hi

I don't want a flat image of my design. I'm looking for an artificially
generated photo of my design as it will look when it is printed off. Canva
will even generate an image of somebody holding the finished leaflet before
it has ever been printed.

Thanks,

Ed.

I know what you're referring to but no, there's nothing like that in InDesign or any other Adobe application (natively).

There may be a plugin in Photoshop and I would start by posting your question in the Photoshop forum

I've used 3D book models to wrap a cover design onto, as an early-notice marketing etc. image. I assume there are Photoshop and other models with a predefined wrap layer that would work like this, but it's (at least presently) a bit off the main roads for CC.

Some of the commercial printers also have an "assembly" proofing step that assembles a model of the project, for orientation and page flow review.

All in all, it's something more part of print setup and proofing than the design end, strictly speaking, and since Canva is fundamentally a print-yer-own service, it makes sense there.
