I decided to try the mail merge function but am getting a source file error

Hi all,

I created a dataset in Excel with two columns, name and committee.  I saved the file as a CSV file.   In InDesign, I opened the Data Merge panel and chose "Select Data Source".   When I click on the CSV file, I get this error.
 

When I open the file in Notepad (so I can make sure all is formatted correctly) the records are there:

Name,Committee
Bill Smith,Community
Emily Roberts,Community
Dawn Pfeifle,Community

What am I missing?
