Image Display Performance right click no longer working

I have a 50 page book that is heavy on pictures/links. I prefer to have the document set to "typical" for the display performance with the option to look at an image in high quality if I need to.  This helps me work through the document faster if I only need to look at new images.  I then change it back to "typical". I have been working like this for 20 year and now when you right click the image, wether you chose fast, typical or hi quality, nothing happens.  The only way to change it now is to go up to menu/view/display performance. This change does not help in efficiency! Please fix the bug!

    I'm not seeing any changes in InDesign 19 than earlier versions, but will admit that this is a confusing command—it lives in three separate places and they reference (and can override) each other. 

    • Preferences > Display Performance
    • Object > Display Performance
    • View > Display Performance

     

    Right clicking an image > Display Performance is a shortcut for Object > Display Performance. This controls the display of the selected object. Setting it there will override the View > Display Performance settings, unless you disabled Allow Object Level Display settings in the View menu, which means a right click won't do anything. (This is what you are describing.) Now, add in the third location that Bob showed and you can see it get messy. Assuming you weren't in there yet, try enabling Allow Object Level Display settings in the View menu and then try that right click again.

    Thank you so much! It's crazy how that control is in 3 different places.  To fix this going forward I:

    1) Set Preferences/Display Performance to Typical Display and check ON Preserve Object-Level Display Settings

    2) Set Object/View/Display Performance to Use View Setting

    3) Set View/Display Performance to Typical Display and checked ON Preserve Object-Level Display Settings

     

    Again, thank you so much for your assistance on this! You just saved myself and my colleagues a ton of time!

        I tried it with it checked on and then checked off.  The only way I can change the image display performance is using the view menu up top.  The right click display performance options don't work.  you can select one of them but the image does not change.  And I tried that with the preserve object-level display settings on and off.  It's just super inconvenient to go up to the menu.  I am up to date using v 19.0

          Do you have the frame/graphic selected? If you don't you'll be toggling the entire document. I just checked here and it works fine in 2024 on Windows 11.
