InDesign CC 9.2 - New Hyperlinks panel - Unresponsive, Slow, Crash

Hello,

Theoretically the new Hyperlink panel is a good improvement. However, I work with files with several hundreds hyperlinks. Once I open the Hyperlinks panel in such a file, the InDesign program stops responding. I suspect the Hyperlink Check Service (to see if hyperlinks are active) is way too slow and does not scale well. Bug report is sent, but I wanted to know if anyone has the same problem.

This process should be a background process. It is not acceptable that the whole program becomes unresponsive because of a single-core being busy.

Sometimes the result of the check is faulty as well. The icon shows red, even if the hyperlink clearly works. This happens if the link does not end with a / in InDesign but it comes back like that in the browser, for example.

Thanks for reading and I hope this gets fixed soon.

I also have experienced this when I combined two files. When I attempt to open the hyperlink panel I get the spinning wheel and InDesign become unresponsive.

This is positively an ancient posting and it's unlikely you'll get help for that reason. Create a new post where you give more information about your system, InDesign version, and when this happens and you'll get more response.

I'm also experiencing the "Not Responding" when trying to work with the hyperlinks palette. (ID CC 11.2.0)
I think I read someone responding that it will do that if hyperlink destinations are in other files. I am working on an ID book and have all the files in the book open but it still struggles for a really long time and when it finally stops spinning, the moment I try to adjust a link the file stops responding again, etc., etc. I also agree, it should be checking in the background.

Is there a plan to fix this issue?

Interestingly, I did not have this issue in CS 5.5 but we upgraded to CC (same book file).

I forgot to add, I'm on running windows 7 pro.

I think we'll see progress with this issue in the upcoming version of InDesign.

Ring Adobe. We were having this problem at work, we have 50+ CC users. IT rang Adobe and they have a fix for this that they haven't released.

I to am having the same issues. Running latest version too. 11.0.0.72. I have a doc that doesn't have too many url's but getting the ball of death when the panel window is open. I have removed all unused urls and that seems to have helped with the particular file I am working on. Also (and this is typically a no-no by Adobe as far as workflow) the file is on a server, not local. Our file servers though seems to have a pretty solid connection 99% of the time.

You need to update to the latest version of InDesign CC 2015. The current version is three updates later—11.3.0.34.

Go to the CC desktop app, found on the menu bar on the Mac or task bar in Windows. Choose "gear" icon > Check for App Updates.

If you don't see any updates, you may need to refresh the Creative Cloud desktop app (which quits and relaunches it) by pressing Command + Option + R (Mac OS) or Ctrl + Alt + R (Windows).

If you still don't see updates, you may need to reinstall the desktop app. Instructions are found in this article:

Still having this problem...  my documents contain hundreds of text anchors.  The script provided has ZERO influence.

Has adobe come up with anything to speed the hyperlinks panel?  At this point I would even accept 10 to 15 seconds of waiting.  I have to wait up to 5 to 30 minutes when revising/adding a single link.  HELP!!!!!!

So has there been any resolution on this ongoing issue.

1. There needs to be a preference to be able to set Shared Destination off by default as it appears to do nothing but cause issues.

2. Is there a script that anyone has written the will check URLs in a document and if they are Shared Destinations will convert them to URLs that are NOT shared?

Hi

I've had the same problem as many others since CC came in. Unfortunately even the new updates hasn't fixed the problem - I can hardly believe that Adobe have had this issue for so long! Totally unprofessional.

For instance, I'm working on a 64pp printed brochure that I also have to add hidden social media hyperlinks to when I upload a pdf online (also uploaded to joomag to make an interactive e-book). I've unchecked the "check links before opening document" in the file handling prefs and at best I get the beachball every time I scroll a page. I've even deleted a load of pages when opening a largish brochure with about 120 hyperlinks and left in only 20 or so hidden hyperlinks but it's the same. I'm now getting crashes too. So it's worse than ever!

My only workaround is to turn off the hyperlink panel when editing, then make a copy in order to save all the hidden hyperlinking until last (I'll have to hope that works OK). It's a crap solution but what do you do?

Sorry guys for seeing you face such severe issues working with the Hyperlinks panel in InDesign.

I had posted a script on this thread, its on the top of this page. It contains the details of why this issue is occurring and how you can temporarily fix it.

Link: Re: Re: InDesign CC 9.2 - New Hyperlinks panel - Unresponsive, Slow, Crash

To run a script please follow the following steps:

1. Download the script from makeHyperlinksDestinationComeToSameDocument.jsx - Google Drive

2. From InDesign open the scripts panel. Its under Window > Utilities > Scripts

3. Context click on any of the folder in that panel and chose reveal in explorer.

4. Copy the file you downloaded to that folder and come back to InDesign and we can see the script file in that panel.

5. Double click to run the script.

I understand this issue is a big problem for many of you. We will try to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

Javed

It seems like a year has passed without a solution.

Is that really true, Adobe?

Please respond to this problem.

It's impossible to create a text anchor without the hyperlink menu....what am I to do now with my ebook?

I'm having the same problem. I'm working with an InDesign document on 1.500 pages with more than 1.000 hyperlinks.

The program doesn't work when I try to use the hyperlink panel.

I want to create a text anchor I can link to, but it is impossible.

And is has never been a problem before.

I have a serious fast mac computer with 16 GB RAM, so what to do?

best regards,

Thomas, Denmark
